The day started cold, but as the temperature rose you cbf to get someone to take your jumper back to the pavillion, so you just stuffed it under your shirt.

4th Test - Cricket Web XI vs England
Day 3 - Cloete furthers CW XI dominance

Michael Vaughan watches as his team slips further into trouble

Andrew Cloete must be the most miserably unfortunate cricketer in the world, or at least at this moment. For the third time in seven innings this series, he fell short of a double hundred. Again he looked as eager and likely as ever to reach the milestone, sailing through the early part of day three and scoring 53 runs from 70 balls. But with 186 runs to his tally, he chipped down the track at Panesar to selflessly up the tempo to the advantage of his team. He only succeeded in scooping a catch to Kevin Pietersen at point.

It was the fifth wicket for Panesar, his first such haul of the series. Hoggard made the first breakthrough in bowling Dauth for an even 50, but Panesar looked to be the key performer when he comprehensively bowled Wilson for 6. In his first turn with the bat, Nick Borcich looked to acquit himself well and ground out 66 balls for 16 runs. In partnership with Cloete he added 36 runs, but both batsmen were out with 6 runs of each other. The lead was already a hefty 133 with two wickets intact. Still Neil Pickup was not satisfied, and instead added his brand of insult to the tune of 28, before pulling to Ramprakash at midwicket. A ball later the innings finished on 416 - Demeza caught third slip.

England searched for 165 to make CW XI bat again and quickly lost their skipper for a first-ball duck. Alastair Cook and Mark Ramprakash recovered somewhat, then the weather intervened to inspire some hope in English hearts. Just over an hour later, play restarted, and Demeza zipped through to bowl Cook for 10. Kennett would have had Pietersen on 20 but for the slippery hands of Demeza at mid-on. The talismanic batsman added another boundary and then flashed hard at Borcich outside the offstump. Wilson jumped to snap up the crucial catch at cover point and the CW XI players swarmed him to celebrate the crucial wicket.

Alastair Cook was bowled by the pacy Demeza

Though less than half an hour remained in the day, Paul Collingwood came to the wicket with England still trailing by 97 runs. He stroked the ball calmly to the cover boundary and helped England to stumps at 77-3. Returning from the wilderness, Mark Ramprakash stood unbeaten on 29, potentially the best hope of an England recovery.

I scored one run against the Windies, I think :( Seriosuly, so many golden ducks. Hurts my feelings.

Another superb knock by Cloete with decent support. Hopefully we run through them on day 4.

4th Test - Cricket Web XI vs England
Day 4 - England still alive, but CW XI close in

Mark Ramprakash stood out amidst the England ashes

England closed day four hanging by a thread of hope, after Mark Ramprakash allowed for some measure of respectability in another day dominated by the tourists. The Cricket Web XI bowled acquitted themselves superbly yet again and England remained firmly on the back foot and on the verge of a rare home defeat.

The England batsmen showed some courage after resuming on 77-3. They still trailed by 88 runs on first innings, and Ramprakash and Collingwood looked to fight England back into some measure of contention. The batting was careful and resolute, with Ramprakash raising a notable half-century in the midst of it. But just as England looked to gain some footing, a poor umpiring decision inspired new panic. Billy Bowden raised a crooked finger to send Collingwood on his way, though it appeared that Mike Wilson had struck him outside the line of offstump. Collingwood trudged off visibly disappointed and was replaced by Ian Bell.

Previously in the series Ian Bell had been the form batsman for England, but he failed to emerge from single figures for the second time in the match. On this occasion it was a more unforunate demise, as a mixup with Ramprakash saw him run out for 2. Matt Prior announced himself as the last of the recognized batsmen with a thumping shot back over the head of Pickup and England went to lunch on 146-5. While Ramprakash continued to look solid and determined, Prior struggled to come to terms with the spin of Pickup. Unsettled, he edged Demeza through to Young at slip, immediately after the fast bowler had replaced his captain.

Ian Bell kicks the turf after being run out by Dauth

All that seemed left for England was the chase of a century by the unlikely Ramprakash. And as he drew closer, moving into the eighties, nerves began to creep into his game. He offered the simplest chances to Dauth in the gully, but was reprieved to the dismay of Kennett. Rain intervened to worry the tourists a bit, but after the second set of showers - 52 minutes off the pitch - Demeza needed just 4 balls to break through. A short, rising delivery caught Ramprakash in a tangle, and he gloved through to Mork. After consideration of his dismissal with head bowed and leaning on his bat, Ramprakash left the pitch, out for 95.

Demeza added the wicket of Sidebottom, his fifth of the innings and seventh of the match. But that was the final incident of the day. Broad and Hoggard offered the full face of the bat in scratching to stumps. With one day left, England lead by 66 runs with only two wickets intact. Cricket Web XI lead the series 1-0 and will look to seal the result with what looks to be a resounding win.

Trav may not be able to bat (in fact, I'm pretty sure he went out to bat in the first dig carrying one of the month-old sticks of french bread that Asda send Cloete for him to beat off his legions of admirers with when trying to travel between the ground and the team bus) but damn, the man can bowl a cricket ball. Fast.

Oh, that explains why my bat was a tad smelly then, I guess.

Stoked with that effort, hopefully we can knock off their last two wickets inside the first hour and chase the target down before lunch.

Piss off rain.

4th Test - Cricket Web XI vs England
Day 5 - Historic victory for rampant CW XI

Neil Pickup and Rob Dauth celebrate the success

Cricket Web XI fairly romped home to an 8-wicket win over England, sealing an historic series success by a dominant 2-0 margin. It is the first such accomplishment for the Webheads in three attempts, and the first of two series in England. Neil Pickup was openly emotional and he raced onto the field to embrace his teammates after Chris Butler turned for the winning run to complete a comfortable chase of 94.

For a moment or two it seemed there would be some footing for England to return to contention. This was as Matthew Hoggard struck twice early to remove the CW XI openers cheaply. Mork uncharacteristically top-edged a hook shot before he had scored, and Pete Young clipped a ball off his hip into the hands of Stuart Broad at legslip. But at 48-2 there still seemed little England could do. Andrew Cloete was already in full flow with three boundaries amidst 25 runs. Butler came to his aid and offered a chance off Broad when he had just 6, but Matt Prior dutifully fluffed it. That was the last of the England opportunities and the last 34 runs were scored in just under 6 overs.

Earlier the England tail resisted for bit, adding 28 runs to the overnight score before the last two wickets were claimed by CW XI. Nick Borcich found the thin edge of Broad's bat, and David Kennett finally found some fortune, with Borcich holding a catch after Hoggard top-edged an attempted hook shot. England were never likely to defend such a small total, and the visitors relished the opportunity to secure the series with a win, and a sizable one at that.
