Healthy competition is one thing, saying that your loving your own team losing is another.

On a good batting wicket, Pakistan upset favourites Australia in the second game of the VB Series. Batting first, the tourists scored 257/7 behind a century from Inzamam and a half-century from Shoaib Malik.

In the chase, the Australians collapsed to loose strokeplay against some unusually disciplined bowling and Pakistan did the trick by 17 runs, despite Michael Clarke's efforts.
It looks like the only thing that can beat Australia is the simulator. 8-)

A very good point that does raise some concerns as to the future of such a player.

I never said I liked to see us lose. There's nothing really behind my statement.I meant that we want to go out there but not at the cost of us losing to cause that.

To say that the guys in the sqaud but not playing are loving the losses because it increases their chances of playing is not a team mentallity (sp). I would kill for a chance to be in the squad, I don't think it's fair that people who are in the squad are undermining the side when others who are outside want nothing more than to play for the international side.

Shame on you.

CW XI to play Pakistan : VB Game 3

RJ Malone
*BJ Goff
I Markus
CR Butler
MJ Robbins
A Cloete
+AP Chaulk
LA Camps
DJ Watt
CM Broadbent
NS Pickup

Some cosmetic changes to the lineup, which see the experience being spread a bit better. Camps also comes in for Verghese to present a 3-seam attack, with Malone and Robbins also contributing.

Webheads Gutted After Malik Stuns

Shoaib Malik put the CW XI batsmen in a spin against Pakistan at the BCG, yet a concerted effort by the tail pulled the game to a 1-run margin. Indeed, the XI fell short by a solitary run, after Dave Watt, Neil Pickup and Chris Broadbent fought back from the earlier two collapses.

Made to field first, the CW bowlers found wickets hard to come by, but kept economical and limited Pakistan to a gettable 242. As against Australia, the chase started poorly and the opening problems were further exposed. Malone was run out due a lack of communication between himself and his captain and the middle order was exposed from the outset.

Goff and Markus rebuilt somewhat, but a middle innings slide left the score 67/4. It was then time for another recovery and Andrew Cloete joined rookie Chris Butler orchestrated it. The two batted calmly and intelligently and took the Webheads right back into the game, when they were parted - Cloete bowled attempting to reverse-sweep.

Another collapse and things looked too far out at 192/8. Still, where this is hope there is a way. The will was still present and Dave Watt set about to build upon his good work with the ball earlier. He got surprising support in the form of a first ball boundary from Neil Pickup, but when the latter was out, it was 209/9.

Yet they soldiered on. Watt and his even less likely partner Broadbent frustrated the bowlers and took the equation down to 20 needed off 2 overs. Watt gather 7 of the 8 runs scored off the 49th over and, when all was said and done, Broadbent was left facing the last 2 balls with 7 needed.

49.5 Naved-ul-Hasan to CM Broadbent: Lobbed over short fine leg!!! FOUR Runs!!! Do you believe???
Tense times... can Broadbent win this game for the CW XI...
Rana in....
49.6 Naved-ul-Hasan to CM Broadbent: BOUNCER!! He's pulled it but Afridi has come up with a spectacular bit of fielding at midwicket! They'll only get 1!!! Pakistan wins!!!!!!

Great fightback by the tail. Disapointing loss guys.

An improved performance, I'm sure you guys can win the next one.

Loony BoB

International Captain
Of those who have batted so far, only Verghese has managed to not score a single-figure score in either the first or second game - but then again, he didn't play the second game. :p

Huge improvement on the game against Aussie, though. Proud of the lads.

Stats will follow once the recent round of FC scorecards have been posted into the Dev League thread...
