Queensland Under-19s vs Cricket Web Under-19s
at Allan Border Field, Brisbane
Despite a compact hundred from Matt Luff, the rest of the side failed to turn up, falling to the medium pace of Matheson and excellent knocks from Kemp and Rabnott as Queensland recorded a confident eight-wicket victory. From a platform of 65 for nought, the Webheads failed to keep up the scoring rate, despite Luff seeking out the boundary eleven times.
Luff had the benefit of luck, but was by far the most confident batsmen of the tourists, daring to play shots and getting away with it for an unbeaten 113. He was, however, tied down by spinner Martel, who also came up with the vital wickets of a belligerent Ben Read and captain Zac Ritchie to set back the efforts of the tourists before the death.
As in Sydney, the bowling stuck to basics, without ever providing the necessary zip. After working opener Murray Nicol out with a short ball, gloved through to the keeper, Pares and Forner could not deliver pressure, nor could the change bowlers. Ten overs of spin were also desperately inefficient, and both Alex Kemp and Nathan Rabnott milked boundaries at a rapid rate to secure victory with eight overs to spare.
