The hosts gritted out a seven-wicket win after the Webheads failed to exploit good conditions, and only too late realised their predicament. Harmless bowling didn't help matters, as the part-timers nearly saved the team towards the end of the game.
After batting first, the tourists crashed inexplicably to 184, with Reddlapalli's one-hour 30 the longest innings. Josh Draper feasted, bowling good line and length. However, only the wicket of Luff was truly earned, the opening batsman bamboozled by a yorker; the remainder played feeble shots to relatively innocuous deliveries, the likes of which would not be good enough to get out hosting batsmen later. Nevertheless, Draper celebrated figures of six for 59.
The Webheads started well enough in reply, Pares' nagging outswingers rarely finding bat but pressuring Connelly into a run out on 20, and at 91 for three there were hopes of parity. However, allrounder Cory Knight and wicket-keeper Tim Davey played patient knocks, except for the murdering of Roberts in his five overs. Josh Forner returned with a decent second spelll that brought three wickets, yet resistance from Laubscher and Kirk Pascoe brought the tally up to 265.
With Hopgood run out without facing a ball, things would get tricky for the Webheads. However, the top order played to the very peak of their abilities, with both Sharma and McMeekin registering half-centuries. Draper threatened to repeat his first-innings heroics when he trapped Reddlapalli lbw, but Chris Dwyer chose an apt moment to return to form. A swashbuckling 93 may have secured his place for the next match, and though Kirk Pascoe got the better of both, Dwyer and Donald added a healthy 124 to ensure a competitive target. Forner and Roberts also played parts, making a stand of 17.
However, South Australia showed good maturity in chasing down the target. Dropped catches in abundance, though not as many as in the first innings, helped them somewhat, but both Connelly and later the number four Garrett played exceptionally until the inevitable mistakes against the part-timers. Reddlapalli, Dwyer and Luff together took five for 97; yet South Australia chased the required 273 with three wickets in hand, shortly before the end of the third day.

A pretty poor performance from the team in that last match. A few decent individual performances, but as a team it wasn't good enough.

David Murphy's gritty knocks of 45 and 62 stood out on a spitting wicket at Adelaide, along with another fine performance by the part-time bowlers. Ritchie turned to them early and was well rewarded, as Luff, Arnold and himself knocked over the middle of their line-up. Yet, Australia were vindicated in their position to bat after a good second-innings performance.
It did look strange when both Sarna and Hughes gave easy chances early on, but Wade put on a crucial 60 with Murphy as Forner and McNamara struggled to put pressure on from one end. However, once McNamara returned and had Murphy out swinging to Dwyer, the rest of the order should have folded easily. From 147 for eight, however, Faulkner held out with Robson amid a spate of dropped catches, and only a googly from Roberts followed by accurate medium pace from Luff to the number 11 ended it.
The 45 runs were to be vital. Despite Arnold's vigil of 44, the other batsmen seemed to be in one-day mode as the innings was over in exactly 50 overs. Chris Dwyer bashed nine fours in a typical 48; it was the other batsmen who were largely at fault, as Robson's off spin was made unplayable and the Australian got figures of five for 47.
Batting again, the hosts made a crucial opening stand of 79, with the Webheads both unlucky and unskilled in not exploiting the conditions. Once again, however, the part-timers made all the difference; a well settled Murphy once again hoiked out and was caught behind, and after the 70-run stand between Keen and Jamie Smith, Arnold and Dwyer cleaned out the tail.
The two big partnerships, however, meant the Webheads chased a mammoth 294 on a very worn wicket. Five days of cricket had taken its toll, on the Webheads as well as the pitch, and after Faulkner had come on for Austin to decimate the top order, Simon Keen bowled quick and at them to bowl three and trap a fourth lbw. He ended with five for 31, Ritchie's and Dwyer's 20-minute appearances were the highest scores, and a meek capitulation for 148 was complete.
