One-day Round Two:
Group A
Titans v Braves
Harry Gunn hit another big one-day score, with 68, as the Titans posted 263 for 7 at Twybridge against a toothless Braves' bowling attack. Alex Crampton also hit 35, while Stephen Burke closed out the innings with a big six to end with 10 not out from number nine. Tight bowling followed, as Hasabnis and Toogood lost sight of the target, and finished 45 runs short.
Titans 263-7 (50 ovs) beat
Braves 217-2 (50 ovs) by 45 runs
(OK, that's another sim tested and scrapped...at this rate, I'll be using my Java knowledge for something come December)
Sharks v Darters
Don Lezama smacked 122 with six sixes, and yet the Sharks could only scamper 237 on their home ground, despite slogging David Kennett out of the attack (6-0-40-0). Rich Langley was also taken for runs, ending with 6-0-43-0, but CW debutant Harry Wright took three wickets for 37. Marc Monaghan was the only batsman apart from Lezama to pass 20 for the Sharks, making 36. However, it proved to be more than enough, as the Darters' batsmen self-destructed - only Wright made 20, hitting two sixes in a half-century, but he eventually succumbed to Andrew Garven, who finished with figures of 4.3-0-31-4.
Sharks 237 (38.5 ovs) beat
Darters 146 (24.3 ovs) by 91 runs
Titans (2-0) 4 pts
Sharks (1-1) 2 pts
Darters (1-1) 2 pts
Braves (0-2) 0 pts
Group B
Jets v Seahawks
The Seahawks ground out 189 on a slow pitch, after Gillespie took out four wickets for 25, while Eddie Sanders hit 38...off 86 balls. Håkon Mørk played a typical knock, scoring 13 off 32, and but for a run-a-ball bout from Banik, it could have been much lower. Mamesh and Deodhar hit runs early on, as the Jets moved to 53 for 1 after ten overs, but they lost four wickets for 39 runs to be precariously placed at 101 for 5. Hogarth and Hingston ground out crucial runs, however, and even though Tucker took another wicket to end with two for 55, the Jets eased to a four-wicket win as Hingston hoiked Derick's ball over mid-off for six - a shot surely taken out of Kevin Pietersen's one-page leaflet on batting.
Seahawks 189 (49 ovs) lost to
Jets 195-6 (40.4 ovs) by four wickets
Jets (1-0) 2 pts
Panthers (1-0) 2 pts
Seahawks (0-2) 0 pts
Group C
Foxes v de Grooters
Dobson and Sajith were the heroes at Nixontown, sharing a 189-run stand to frustrate the Foxes' bowling attack out of their wits. Sajith was eventually lbw to Bhatia for 92, but Dobson went on to thump 117, while Sukhvinder Singh hit 53 as de Grooters hit a mammoth 307 for 3. Batting second, the Foxes lost both openers to Mat Mitchell in the second over, and after 42 from Moon there was nowhere to hide. Pardhasaradhi ran through them to finish with four for 32, and the Foxes totalled 147.
de Grooters 307-3 (50 ovs) beat
Foxes 147 (27.3 ovs) by 160 runs
Tigers (1-0) 2 pts
de Grooters (1-1) 2 pts
Foxes (0-1) 0 pts
