Opening round - One-day Grade
Group A
Braves v Darters
Campsfield collapsed to 124 on their home ground, defeated by the varied bowling attack of the Darters. KR Kode top-scored with 27, holding out in a sticky 36-run partnership with Dubb-Lynch, but off-spinner Comley dug out two wickets, ending with two for 26. Nath Patrick also got three for 28, but the Darters had everyone to thank for a stellar performance. Dawlat Ameer then hit a well-timed 31, Rich Langley and Dave Kearsley also supplied, and the Darters eased to a seven-wicket win.
Braves 124 (26 ovs) lost to
Darters 125-3 (28.4 ovs) by seven wickets
Titans v Sharks
An epic century from the Titans' Harry Gunn saved the Titans from an embarrassing splutter at their home ground. After both openers had been caught off Rose in single digits, Joslin, Crampton and Brown all hit solid knocks but couldn't prevent the Titans falling to 118 for 5. Tarick Weber then hit a run-a-ball 45, and despite wickets tumbling to part-timer Garven in the late overs, the Titans still posted 263 for 9. Nick Hancock then recorded the first five-for of the tournament, removing Fitzsimmons, Hanbury, Cloete, Garven and Shahzad in a beautiful spell which read 5-0-22-5. Jonathan Brown also got two wickets, and Jack McNamara cleaned up the tail, as the Sharks subsided for 112.
Titans 263-9 (50 ovs) beat
Sharks 112 (22.5 ovs) by 151 runs
Group B
Seahawks v Panthers
The Pickford Panthers strangled the batting at Edfield, but couldn't quite get the wickets as the Seahawks' strong batting line-up prevailed. Pooja Bharat hit 77 not out and Gary Nayak 70, with the pair sharing an imposing third-wicket stand of 141. Earlier, Neil Barnaby and Håkon Mørk had shared a stroke-filled opening stand of 68. Jack McCrystal was the only bowler to get wickets, finishing with two for 28. All was set up for an enthralling finish, and although Tamara Gould was the top-scorer, she nearly threw it away. After seeing off the spin of Tucker and adding 77 with Hepworth, she failed to score quickly enough in the late overs, and it was almost a relief when she nipped an outside edge off Borcich into the waiting hands of Mørk for a 141-ball 95. Sanders was chosen to bowl the final over, but made a crucial line error as he bowled a leg-side wide to Hepworth. With the target cut to three off three, Hepworth smacked one to cover for a well run three, and gave the Panthers a five-wicket win.
Seahawks 235-3 (50 ovs) lost to
Panthers 236-5 (49.4 ovs) by five wickets
Group C
de Grooters v Tigers
Brendon Goff exploited the flat pitch at Robbham to hammer 107 not out and help his team to an imposing 288 for 4 in 50 overs, while the Grooters' bowling was left clueless. With two imposing sixes, Goff made the highest score of the first round of OD grade cricket, and he was well supported by Courtis (84) and Jasotharan (42 not out). Marc Robbins was the only one to escape, bowling one maiden and conceding 47 overs. Needing 69 from the last ten overs after half-centuries from Dauth and Dobson, the Grooters slashed catches to the keeper Jasotharan - who held four off the medium-pace dobbers of Cribb (6-0-34-4). Eventually, Robbins and McKern needed 12 off the last over, and the Tigers managed to hold them to singles and prevailed in a thrilling finish.
Tigers 288-2 (50 ovs) beat
de Grooters 285-8 (50 ovs) by three runs
