as the Webheads breezed past Cricket Web 'B' in St. Lucia.
Killed 'em. Nah look, some steady bowling from Nicky Borcich. Bennett and Stedman looking good with the bat.

Joseph stars but Webheads prevail
Cricket Web 'A' vs West Indies 'A'
1st ODI - Bourda

Brilliant counterattacking cricket from Sylvester Joseph was not enough, and Cricket Web 'A' went 1-0 up in the OD series against their West Indies counterparts. Joseph was unbeaten on 107 (with his last 57 runs coming off just 43 balls) and was the lone hand in a dismal effort by the home side.

Quality half-centuries from Sean Bennett and Alex Blackman were the basis for a big score of 274/4, but careless West Indies cricket left the game tumbling in the same direction as the "Test" matches until Joseph's showing.

Discarded Test player, Xavier Rose claimed 3 wickets and Sean Bennett 2, as West Indies 'A' slumped to 139/7. Joseph contributed 49 of the 76 runs added with Richard Kelly for the 8th wicket, but it was a bit too little, far too late.

Cricket Web 'A' 274/4 (50 overs)
West Indies 'A' 237/9 (50 overs)

Cricket Web 'A' won by 37 runs.
Man of the Match: SA Bennett

Extras decisive in Antigua classic
Cricket Web 'A' vs West Indies 'A'
in Antigua

The ARG crowd was in for a treat as the Cricket Web 'A' vs West Indies 'A' finally made a turn for the competitive with a thrilling tied result. Needing 9 runs off the final over the innings, the West Indians looked to be heading for defeat when Banks was bowled by Rose halfway through.

Indeed, it took an unfortunate gift from the tourists which went a long way toward the final result. Rose fired a ball marginally down the legside and it beat Lezama to race to the boundary for four wides. Richard Kelly then took a quick single off the final delivery to seal the tie.

Considering the superb batting conditions at the ground, the end result was shocking, if only because neither team managed more than 229 runs. Cricket Web struggled after winning the toss and batting first. Tarick Weber needed to hit the last four balls of the innings for boundaries to give the total its eventual measure of respectability.

While DeSilva, Fuller and Lezama had played good innings earlier, momentum was difficult to gather, especially against the controlled offspin of Gareth Breese and Omari Banks.

Set 230 for victory, West Indies 'A' was off to a solid start behind an impressive half-century from Ryan Ramdass and an opening stand of 89. Tarick Weber made the first breakthrough as he bowled beautifully throughout the innings. When he clipped Daren Ganga's offbail in the 41st over, it breathed further excitement into an already intriguing competition.

At that stage, 66 runs were needed off the final 54 balls and the demand of chase intensified. Fuller trapped Joseph (9), then Deonarine launched Rose for a straight six before he too was out. The equation slimmed to 44 off 39 and Kelly joined Carlton Baugh jr. at the crease.

Sean Fuller attempted a slower ball to Kelly in the 45th over, but the left-hander picked it beautifully and deposited into the stands at midwicket. The momentum shifted and 31 were needed off 30 balls. Baugh was dropped by Wilson in the deep off Rose, but he was yorked by the same bowler two overs later.

Just 14 balls remained and 19 runs were the goal. By the start of the 49th over, a run had been added. Borcich to Banks: squeezed off the outside edge down to the third man rope - 9 off the over. Rose discussed the approach with his captain at the top of the mark, then ran in to round out the classic...

Cricket Web 'A' 229/7 (50 overs)
West Indies 'A' 229/7 (50 overs)

Game tied.
Man of the Match: SE Fuller
Series: CW 'A' leads 1-0

Wow. Utterly thrilling finish, and the first A match we've failed to win so far on the tour.

Can't really fault the team though. The batting didn't have the acceleration we might have wanted, but the bowling was just excellent throughout.

Weber very unlucky to miss out on man of the match.

We can still challenge the Invincibles. Haven't lost a game on tour. Tarick was brilliant with both bat and ball and was instrumental in achieving this result.

Can someone please take out Tino Best? He's dismissed me in virtually every innings this tour.

To be honest i'm pretty disappointed not to be playing any part in the one day series to date. I am the leading wicket-taker on tour and have even made a couple of scores with the bat. I hardly see myself as a FC specialist, infact I think I would be even more useful in the shorter form just that luck hasn't gone my way in my short domestic one day career so far. I would have thought picking an XI on form would have been the best recipe for success, but obviously the selectors disagree.

Mike Wilson is a marginally better OD player, so he was picked ahead of you for the allrounder spot. For the spots of the specialist seamers, Rose and Borcich impressed in the warmup. Borcich has failed to do so in the 'A' matches since though, so you're in with a shot for the remainder of the series.

Thanks Liam. If I get a run would it be possible for me to open the bowling as I feel I go better with the new ball in one day matches. To be fair i didn't get too much of a crack in the warmups either, playing only one game with a return of 0/27 off eight overs. All i'm after is a fair go, i'm sure my one day form is going to turn around sooner or later 8-)
