The IFHA's ranking of the world's Group One races doesn't really agree with that. Here's the 2023 list: https://ifhaonline.org/resources/WTGradedRanking/LWGRank.asp?batch=7
I was about to take umbrage with this list till I saw it was 2023 not 2024. I'd be interested to see what the latest version is although doesn't seem to be out yet. I think some late season races in Europe gain a higher rating because 3 year olds have improved and bring the average up. But no doubt in my mind, the Juddmonte was easily the best in Europe this year when City Of Troy peaked.

I'd say there's an opening this year for an International horse to do well in Europe. Next year's 3 year old crop doesn't look particularly strong at the moment whilst some of the best older horses have been retired.

I do think injury helped So You Think - chances are he'd have met Frankel at York in his next run, which is where this freakish performance happened.

So You Think probably places. Nothing would of beaten Frankel - a freak.

Off to Cheltenham today to see the best horse in training. Something to cheer me up and take my mind off the last few weeks.

Might get on the muggy treble of East India Dock, L'homme Presse and Potters Charm.

Good effort by Romantic Warrior on dirt for the first time to get 2nd. I reckon he was a sitting duck with 200m to go though. Maybe J-Mac pressed the button a bit too early? Oh well, it happens sometimes. Forever Young got the job done, thrilling finish.

Huge day across NZ and Australia today. Great to see Aussies embrace the meeting at Ellerslie too.

Ended up being a very special day that even exceeded my high expectations. The Group One days they used to have at Ellerslie in early March were always plagued by disappointing crowds, so it was great to see a full house today.

Those Australian raiders all ran well, but the Kiwis held them out and took the lion's share of the prize money.

I hope the Champions Day concept goes from strength to strength from here. There have been some horrendously wet days at this time of year in the past, so it'll be interesting to see what happens when the weather doesn't play ball.

I ended up writing 13 stories. Enjoying a hard-earned beer now.

I could've had a free ticket to Ellerslie on Saturday but nibbs got it instead because I had to go wine tasting with the missus ffs

Cheltenham Festival here this week, all eyes on Constitution Hill in the Champion Hurdle tomorrow (can the former champ retake his crown and remain unbeaten) and Galopin Des Champs in the Gold Cup on Fri (going for the 3 timer).

Well that wasn't the Champion Hurdle we were expecting. Constitution Hill falling at halfway and then State Man (last year's winner, but previously humbled by CH) falling at the last with the race at his mercy. With the 2nd fave clearly being thoroughly over-rated by some weak races in Ireland, we end up with a 25-1, 66-1, 150-1 first 3 from a 7 runner race....crazy!!

At least both horses were ok, State Man's fall in particular looked nasty at first.

Sport does funny things. 2 years ago, young conditional Michael O’Sullivan rode a double at Cheltenham on Marine Nationale and Jazzy Matty. Just over a month ago, Michael died as a result of injuries sustained from a racing fall. Today, those two same horses both won at the Festival. Poignant doesn’t do it justice, just crazy.

Outstanding first-up win by Vauban for the Waterhouse/Bott stable. He looks a different horse now to the one that travelled over for his Melbourne Cup runs.
