He was the fittest horse and handled the conditions better than anyone else. Really good win.

Sea The Stars is the best horse in the race. If he gets the distance (which he's bred to do), he'll win.

Was watching the preview show last night and a few of them said that. It also said that the horse who wins will make about 8-10 million pounds a year when put out to stud:-O

Yeah, easy. It may have less prize money on offer than races like the Dubai World Cup and Melbourne Cup, but if you take that into account, the Derby is the most valuable race in the world.

The O'Brien horses played into his hands though. Was more a sprint then a staying race.:@

Yeah, I lost money.....

That was a superb performance. You don't see many horses win the Derby with their ears pricked. Best Derby win I've seen since Galileo...who just happens to be this horse's half-brother.

In the Belmont, Mine That Bird was beaten as much by his jockey as by the 2 horses that eventually finished in front of him. Even if Borel just forgot how long the home straight is at the biggest track in the USA, I don't understand how it could ever be seen as a good idea to go from second-last to first in a huge wide move while the field is going around a big, sweeping turn. Still an exciting race though.

Royal Ascot starts in an hour and a half!

Five late nights coming up.

And what a way to start the week - the first three races are all Group 1. Race 4 is possibly the most interesting from my point of view though, the Coventry Stakes, featuring an unbeaten colt called Canford Cliffs that has been described as a potential superstar.

After that six-length romp, you can get no better than 10-1 on him winning the 2000 Guineas, which is more than 10 months away.

Well, I may have suggested on this site that Talksport was a terrible insult to the intelligenge and the worst kind of tabloid radio ever, but I now realise it's clearly a shining beacon of broadcasting.

All thanks to Rupert Bell telling the listeners to the station that his brothers horse Moneycantbuymelove would definitely win the Sandringham Handicap:)

How good is Yeats? Four wins in a row in the Ascot Gold Cup (a 4000m race). That's one of the greatest feats I've ever seen in any sport.

It's a shame so many people in this part of the world don't rate him because he only came 7th in the Melbourne Cup one year.

Very strange finish to the July Cup last Friday (night, our time). Fleeting Spirit easily the best in the race, but weaves all over the course when the jockey gave her a tap. Still held the race though, despite cleaning up second, due to the margin of victory.

Yeah, crazy. Sad to see Takeover Target suffering a career-ending injury in that race. What a great horse he was.

Absolutely stunning feat by Sir Michael Stoute this weekend - he trained the trifecta in the Group 1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot with Conduit, Tartan Bearer and Ask.

It was a quality performance from the horse too, adding another big one to his St Leger and Breeders' Cup Turf titles last year.

Another brainless pacemaking display by the O'Brien runners though. What the **** are they trying to do?

Mufhasa takes Horse of the Year for the 2008-09 season. There's a surprise.

Was a bit surprised to see Daffodil (1 stakes win in NZ) beat Tell A Tale (4 stakes wins in NZ and 3rd in the Derby) in the 3yo category though. Shows the weight they give performances in Australia.

RIP Pat Quinn who was killed in a tragic accident at the Canterbury races yesterday...

He was pinned against the Stable rail when his horse kicked out...

He was rushed to hospital but went into cardiac arrest in the ambulance...

He was a geniuine nice guy who i knew well through him training numerous horses of mine in the past...

Although not a big name trainer he was a very smart horseman and will be sorely missed by many..

RIP Patty..
