Notts probably up there as my least favourite cricket team. So many 'big players' that are average. I thought they should of got rid of Samit last year. Had a crap year and having him around stunts the development of their spinners and allrounders. Team needed some freshness after the garbage of last year. Not Samit to turn up fat as normal and casually pull long hops to deep square leg as normal. Credit to Brendan Taylor and Luke Fletcher in that respect - both lost between 1.5 and 2 stone over the winter. I wouldn't be so bothered but Samit never gets dropped either because of his dual role in the team. IMO it breeds complacency in his game and Notts become dependent on the role he plays and other players don't grow as a result.
They always come across like wankers on the balcony. Peter Moores spent the entire match - and this was gailforce winds and freezing cold - standing leaning on the balcony which I found rather strange. At least have a seat! And some of the Durham supporters began imitating chickens noises when Hales came out to bat (not me - I'm a perfect gentleman).

That's the least Hales deserves after getting bounced out by a convict university.

It's not like there is much improvement to come.

Chris Read is retiring.

OK

Alex Hales 28
Brendan Taylor 31
Rikki Wessels 32

Past their best or average.

Steve Mullaney (31)
Michael Lumb (37)
Greg Smith (29)
Samit Patel (33)

The young batsman/keepers need to step up. Particularly in Libby's case for 4-day cricket. Libby and Root aren't 22 anymore either even though young in County Cricket experience.

Jake Libby (24)
Billy Root (25)
Tom Moores (21)

Some knock by Roelof the other day though.

Still wondnering how he could do something like that without the help of the altitude :D

Wouldn't be surprised if they sign Joe Clarke next year.

If Worcestershire don't go up it is a possibility. Though would imagine Warwickshire would be after him too. All of that might be pointless though if he gets in the England side this summer, has to be one of the guys close to a call up given we have a space available at 5.

Glos (****bain 108* and Howell* 86) chasing down Middlesex's 256 despite being 65-5 at one stage - quite a similar match to Somerset v Surrey, the other day.

Graham Onions rested for tomorrow's Warwickshire one-dayer playing instead for the Seconds v Northants (Monday - Thursday, one-dayer followed by a three-dayer)? Bit odd! I know 2016's policy was to preserve him for solely the championship, but witness this on the official website,

First XI bowler Graham Onions is set to appear as he pushes for inclusion in the limited-overs squad
What are we to make of it all?

Squad vs Warwickshire (1 May): Keaton Jennings (c), Stephen Cook, Michael Richardson, Graham Clark, Paul Collingwood, Cameron Steel, Paul Coughlin, Ryan Pringle, Stuart Poynter (wk), Mark Wood, James Weighell, Barry McCarthy, Chris Rushworth

Squad vs Northamptonshire 2nd XI (1-4 May): Adam Hickey (c), Graham Onions, Gavin Main, George Harding, Josh Coughlin, Scott Steel, Tom Hewison, Michael Jones, Gareth Hart, Liam Hurt, Irfan Karim (wk)

Notts should get promoted on the back of their bowling and ok batting for division 2.

But if they get promoted I would go as far as to say they should not only try and get Joe Clarke but Ben Duckett too.

I'm all for Hameed playing some one-day cricket, it can only help him develop his game - but it seems odd to pick him and then not have him open. Wasn't injured was he?

Acres of empty stands though - sad to see on a Bank Holiday. They're supposed to be one of the better supported counties, too.

Actually from the aerial view it looks as if they've closed some off - fair enough for a county game I guess, as it helps to clean up afterwards.

Looks like a reasonable turnout in the stands that were available.

Lancs in big trouble now with McLaren holing out to Rafiq. Good day for England too, 10 tidy overs from Rashid and though Root and Bairstow didn't make big scores, they've had some time in the middle. The Ballance question won't go away this season it seems.
