The change bowlers are better as an opening pair than any other side can put out bar Durham. If they had some batting they would still be a div 1 side. That notts seam attack is a bit obscene for Division 2.
Indeed...go for a day out to Harrogate and come back to the disastrous scoreboard that is.....what has gone on??Bloody hell Yorkshire.
Watching some of the highlights and the wicket was certainly up and down. Holden got bowled by one that kept low and there was another that flew off a length, edged and went way over the slips. Wicket looked a bit dry but with a tinge of grass on the top. I know it's being unseasonably dry recently and there be some club wickets with similar problems.22 wickets at Worcester, in less than 90 overs play. Did someone say Pitch Liaison Officer?
That opening pair is a better opening pair than at least half the Test teams! That notts seam attack is a bit obscene for Division 2.
Thing is, when Ballance was recalled last year, he was in the middle of a frankly miserable county season - i.e if he keeps up the run-scoring this season I'd be happy enough to look past his mediocre series vs Pakistan and dire tour of Bangladesh. That said, if he did badly again after a hypothetical recall, I guess that woulds have to be the end of his England career. So seeing as there looks to be a batting spot open at 5 in the test side what chance it goes to Livingstone? Obviously on the radar and started the season well.
Cook
Hameed
Jennings
Root
Livingstone?
Stokes
Bairstow
Moeen
Woakes
Broad
Anderson
I think from 6 down it is pretty certain barring injury and Root will bat 3 or 4 and Cook obviously opens. Hameed probably opens alongside him and Jennings has to be given a chance. That leaves number 5 and other than the tried and failed Ballance nobody seems to be making a great case in the early games.
While I agree to a certain extent I think they need to look at a couple of players first and Ballance needs a run like Bairstow had of over half a season with a ridiculous average to win his place back. If it was a straight choice now between Ballance or Livingstone i'd go for Livingstone.Thing is, when Ballance was recalled last year, he was in the middle of a frankly miserable county season - i.e if he keeps up the run-scoring this season I'd be happy enough to look past his mediocre series vs Pakistan and dire tour of Bangladesh. Hameed's bad start to the season also puts him in doubt for me.
