Rawlins straight into the Sussex team.

Liked the look of Weatherly last week for Kent (on loan from Hampshire) against Glos. Had time and played the ball late. Strokes the ball rather than bash it. Unfortunately not playing this week with Dickson back from injury.

Essex and Somerset both playing their second spinner at Taunton. Essex's bowling is so meh. Don't think Wagner is a great new ball bowler. Porter meh. Zaidi a white ball cricketer. Somerset look strong with one Davies replaced by another in the wicketkeeping.

English players fairly mediocre so far in the IPL. Wonder which will be the first to be dropped.
I agree it does look a little innocuous, but they've seemingly done a very decent job on day one down at Taunton. Feared the worst when Tres and Elgar got them off to a steady start, thought it might be a long day ahead for them, Wagner was pretty expensive throughout the day it seemed, but Harmer and Bopara dried things up and built some pressure which saw Bopara get a couple of key wickets. I do think Harmer's going to be a decent signing, I know Taunton will benefit spin but for him to come on 12 overs into the first day and give Essex such control, it can only bode well.

A mention too to Zaidi, only took him till his third over to pick up his first wicket and what an important one aswell enticing Elgar out of his crease.

Hopefully Cook can get set for a big one tomorrow, a good opportunity for us to get a handy lead and exert some real pressure on the hosts.

Bit of a recovery 249/6 from 67/5, shouldn't have got in that position in the first place. Shiv doing his thing, well played Jordan Clark
Heck of a recovery from 120 for 6 to 294 for 6

I did think that some of the writing about our attack was over-the-top. Obviously it's reasonable, and probably one of the better ones around, but perhaps its depth and variety aren't quite enough to compensate for the lack of players of the highest quality. I would imagine that most batsmen would rather be facing Surrey than Hampshire, for instance.

I'm toying with the idea of braving the cold and popping up to The Oval later. If any other CWers are going, do let me know and perhaps we can share a couple of beers.

Marchant getting a bit of tap at Cardiff. Looks to be hurling them down quick but they are going even quicker to the boundary. Kohler- Cadmore has a touch of another worcestershire great in Graeme Hick. Tall, conventional but dominant batsman who likes driving and pulling. Likes the straight drive a bit too much on occasion but good to watch when going well.

That is how he was for quite some time in SA after his SA success/non-success however you want to put it. Much improved this season in SA.

Got to hope it is just nerves to prove himself for his and Glamorgan's sake.

The Notts batting line-up really does need some new blood. Proving they can't cut it in 4-day cricket in Div 2 even though it's early days. Bowling attack could get them promoted though.

Some start to the season for Coad. Probably keeps him in the side when most of the others get fit if he keeps this up.

oh my

there's going to be a brilliant gif at some point of fletcher of notts being runout. No doubt it will go viral like the Samit runout a year or two ago. https://twitter.com/DurhamCricket/status/853246929777635328

poor bloke was on for a ton too. and he's lost two stone over the winter.

vince really needs to get his **** together for Hampshire. buckle down and use his natural skills rather than frittering away his career.

Somerset could win the championship if they produce these result wickets. Say win 5/7 at home with 2 defeats. Draw a load away with the odd win/defeat. That's if they don't get deducted points in the meantime for under prepared wickets.

With that being said, if it's reversed and they lose 5/7 at home with a couple of wins they'll probably go down.

Holden at 7 for northants makes no sense. If Duckett and Newton want to open slot him in at 3.

Worcestershire with a better balance this year. They normally fizzle out after a good start because they have a small squad and generally play their best side for every game and so the players burnout. PLaying the 5 fast bowlers + dolly should keep the bowlers fairly fresh and Leach, Barnard, Hastings are decent lower order bats.

Lancs-Surrey game will probably meander to a draw but we probably would have taken that before the toss never mind at 122-6. Hopefully a sign of things to come from Shiv

I'm sure he'll be fine in time. Wickets early season are very slow. A bit of pace (if the pacer isn't swinging/seaming it) is sometimes easier to play that the medium pacer.

Three of your guys injured today or yesterday. Ackermann (hand), Roussouw (?) and Philander(groin)

Saw a CA highlights reel of Patto cartwheeling some stumps. The ICC should make it mandatory for test wickets to be prepared so we see this more. Water the area around the stumps ffs, and to hell with the cost of stump visiona cameras. There's no better sight in cricket.

I'm probably in a minority here, but I genuinely prefer to see a stump pegged back that knocked out of the ground/sent cartwheeling.

Though I actually tend to remember wickets in terms of sound, more than how it looked in any particular detail. Though I do seem to remember the physical reactions of the fielders as well as anything.

Basically I remember everything about a dismissal apart from the dismissal itself
