But on second thoughts giving gilly a rest for today would not have been that bad. Gilly would have also appreciated that, and that would given haddin a game on his home ground.

No isses with Hodge's selection. I'm not a particularly big fan of his, but he's in good form and it's not an openers spot, so Jaques wouldn't be playing there in the long run anyway. This will probably be his last chance in ODIs, anyway. If Watson's fit next time a middle order batsman is injured, they'll probably just draft in White, and if Hodge fails this time I'd imagine Voges or someone would move ahead of him.

Hodgy's whole international future (both in the short and long forms) could ride on today's innings. At 32, it's hard to see him being drafted next Summer, unless he produces a compelling performance today. Furthermore, if they take Hayden and Watson (which seems likely) it's difficult to see how the selectors could shoe-horn him into the World Cup squad, almost regardless of his current form or what he produces today.

Hodge is one of those players who has always been great at the domestic level, but he has never been able to turn it on at international level.

well his test record isn't poor. While his ODI career is poor yea but to me that is due to the fact that he hasn't got an extended enough run in in shorter version. I've seen him bat enough for Lancashire to know he can be a destructive run in the side, England would do well to get a player like him in the ODI side.

Like Lehmann even though he has gotten his chance late, i'm sure if he gets a good 2-3 years in Australian colours he can a end his international career with good numbers.

Outside chance of him making the WC squad as a backup batsman I think. Assuming the first team is the same as the current one with Watson in for White, you'd expect the backup four would include Hogg, Clark and White, with one other spot available which will probably go to Haddin, Hodge, Jaques or possibly another seamer.

Hodge is so pedestrian, I hope he fails 'cos I don't want him going to the World Cup, and shock horror, I'm a Victorian. This whole cricket summer has been such a let down, I've lost all interest now Marto has left. I need some other effortlessly stylish player to come into the Aussie ranks. I hope Tait is playing today, will be interesting to see how he goes. Is anyone else completely sick of this tri-series? It really makes no sense and is completely stupid that they bundle all the tests into a month or whatever and drag these pointless one day games out for the rest of the summer. Test cricket should be a summer game, i.e. played in middle, late Jan and early Feb. We should start with the one day rubbish and follow with the tests. CA has got it all wrong, it's really frustrating. Sorry, rant over.

Tait will play and I expect him to ruffle up the English batsmen.I predict Tait to make the WC squad ahead of Clark. You heard it hear first.

yeah Tait should get a bag full with his deadly yorkers. Is he going to open the bowling with Bracken or not ?

Still don't understand why White is ahead of Hogg on a spinners wicket

Me too I always wanted him in the ODI side as a batsman...imagine him and Gilly opening the batting, especially against ENG

Are they going to take a backup keeper to the WC or not ? They have to...what if Gilly injured himself just before the game ? It takes a day to fly to the Windies

Haha it's 13/0 and Cricinfo is like "England off to a steady start"... looks like they didn't expect them to get a steadier start than that.
