Brett Lee to be rested again in the next match at the SCG... interesting one since he's up for auction in the IPL today, and yet he's not going to play in front of his home fans.

Really? I've only heard that he's been rested for Melbourne's match against Sri Lanka.

Whatever it takes!!!
At what point does Muralitharan's impact with the ball start to worry Sri Lanka?
Think he is having problems adjusting to Aussie conditions again and also the fact that these are the two teams that play him the best...

The Aussies seem to be the best in nudging him around, making sure he doesn't get wickets. The Indians just nullify him, tbh. He has his moments now and then, but over all, a Sachin or a Gambhir or even a Dhoni tends to just start playing with so much ease that it is not funny.. Must be a hard one for his morale, given how much so many others tend to struggle against him.

You get the feeling he's past worrying about it when batsmen play him with ease. He's pretty patient, I reckon. On a long enough timeline, Murali gets you eventually!

It's merely temporary. Murali will back with avengeance next month. Sri Lanka tours the West Indies and have you seen how someone of those guys play spin? They made Johan Botha look good.

The other two frintline spinners, Hogg & Harbhajan, are not doing too well either and none of the several part timers (Jayasurya,Tendulkar,Clarke,Symonds,Sehwag.Yuvraj,Dilshan) has taken a wicket so far. So he can take some heart from it. Though of course he is Murali and they are not.

AWTA - often the conditions in Australia aren't all that conducive to off spin (even though he's different to almost every other offie), and both other teams do play him well.

I think for a few years now the Aussies have had an attitude of making sure he doesn't get wickets, or if he does it takes him ages to do so (in tests) and he goes for plenty in doing it.

Dont think it would worry them all that much, tbh. It was always going to be a difficult tour for him given the conditions and the opposition he faces. He has however, so far, done better than his last CB tri-series CB tour where he really went for a few and was pretty ineffective (or less effective than usual). The Australians really like to keep rotating the strike to him (something that his close in fielders should help him with) and the Indians do that and hit him for boundaries too (as that cricinfo link a couple of days ago made clear). But overall, he has done a little better than I had expected and he certainly has not been helped by a couple of dropped chances too. He also seems, in the little of the CB series I have watched, to be a lot more attacking to both sets of batsmen than he normally is in ODI's.

In any case, the SL pace bowlers have more or less stepped into the breach and their decision to bring only one specialist spin bowler seems to have been the right one. Its also heartening to see Vaas really pick up the slack, and he has bowled noticeably faster in this series than he has for quite a while, especially after the initial games.

Australia's batting to finally fire for mine - to make 300 plus, though rainy conditions and the big ground probably won't help.

Good start here by SL - looks like another deck with a bit in it.

Lower scores, with something for the bowlers = better ODIs imo.
