Gilly is being replaced by Haddin, who is gun batsman too and i am not sure how you can say Hopes is any lesser than any other genuine batsman in the domestic competition, he is among the heavy scorers in the OD circuit
Err Haddin is not comparable to some one like Gilchrist. Hopes is lesser than genuine batsmen easily. He has averaged 40 this season in 10 games but the last 2 seasons it was low mid 30s and around. If you think he is equal to some of the best Aussie domestic batsmen right now, you are deluding yourself.

btw first you were Australia should drop Hopes and pick an extra bowler, now you are saying they should pick an extra batsman, what's up with that mate.
What's up with that mate is that you haven't followed what I said properly.

Looks like Harby copped a bit of a spray ont he way out there, judging by his aggrieved reaction as he walked off. It's always the worst perps who act most aggrieved when they cop some back.

He acted sensibly tbh given just after he turned, he turned back and walked off maturely. It was Ponting's mistake. He had no business tapping Harbhajan on the back (r wherever he did) as a send off or encouragement or whatever just after he was walking off being dismissed given the two haven't exactly seen eye to eye through the series.

Johnson's been massive in the last two games. Bowled really, really well. He's the real deal in ODIs.

Wasn't around to comment on it at the time, but how good was Symonds' catch in the last game? One of the best.

He probably just said "bad luck"

BTW, what I said also applies to other players like Hayden et al, who look disgusted when they cop a spray, but give it out all the time themselves.

The bowling lineup of the aussies really desrrve a pat on the back, twice the batsmen have let the team down only for the bowlers to really give it their best.

Bloody Sharma - bowls well, catches pretty well - even looks like he holds a bat pretty good for a number 10.

Not fair, imo.

Absolutely pathetic batting performance - half the wickets given away were pure filth. I am looking at Yuvraj, Uthappa, Gambhir - should have won this easily with a lot more application.

Doesn't have any shots yet, very much like a young Gillespie or current Hoggard.
Yeah, though Dizzy got a double ton by the end of this career.

What about Bracken's speed tonight - up into mid-high 130s pretty consistently. Good stuff by him.

All over now. How the hell we got a win, let alone a BP out of that, I'll never know.

Haddin is no Gilchrist but he is one of the heaviest scorers in Australian domestic circuit, so he is a pretty damn good in his own right, btw the thing is you are not understanding that Australia want a guy who can bat well at seven and bowl his quota of 10 overs without getting spanked all around (so they don't have to use part-timers to chip in as the 5th bowling combination), before Hopes, Watson was doing that job but with Watson's constant injury problems, he was dropped and Hopes was picked due to his form in the domestic circuit and Hopes has done fairly well since his comeback to deserve a long run.

It also means that, if conditions suit, they have an additional seamer rather than getting ten out of some part time tweakers.

Geez Dhoni, really layed into Rohit Sharma there in the post-match interview. Not good, not good at all, you don't say that sort of stuff in public about a colleague.

What a bowling effort.
Yeah superb win and a great bowling effort, more importantly it was collective bowling effort and that's always a good sign, to win this game the way we did and that too without Lee playing makes it further impressive, btw lets not forget Clarke's knock today and his partnership with Hogg, their knocks gave the bowlers a fighting total to defend and they did part brilliantly.
