Wickets intact as Bangladesh massacre Kenya

A stunning game transpired at Jaipur, as only 4 wickets fell in the crucial fixture between Bangladesh and Kenya. Bangladesh, having lost to India in their opening game, needed to win against their minnow counterparts, and did so convincingly on a bizarre pitch.
Kenya batted first, hoping the avoid the stranglehold of the Bangladesh spinners on a wearing pitch. Maurice Ouma cashed in on the experience to the tune of 122 not out, his maiden one-day international hundred. At the other end Ravi Shah stroked a less pleasant 92, and Kenya posted 233-2 in their 50 overs, only losing their first wicket in the 49th over, and with 222 runs already on the board.
The performance would have granted great heart to the Kenyans, but also disappointed due to the eventual total and given the number of wickets in hand. As was to be expected, Bangladesh set about to make amends for their disappointing bowling display. And they did so emphatically. Shahriar Nafees and Tamim Iqbal led the charge, the two added 129 runs in 17.3 overs, when Nafees was trapped lbw by Onyango for 59.
Tamim continued the assault on the Kenyan bowlers. He got to his hundred from 91 balls in the 33rd over, and Bangladesh overhauled Kenya's total in 36th. Mohammad Ashraful too cashed in with 2 sixes in an unbeaten 39. Now Bangladesh waits in hope that Kenya can overcome the impressive India, then it will be down to net run rate to decide the Pool A qualifier.

England surged past Zimbabwe in their opening game of the Champions Trophy. The victory came by a margin of 139 runs, but was not without flaws.
There were several starts for the batsmen, with Ian Bell (41) and Kevin Pietersen (54) in particular playing with freedom. No one went on to a big score, however. On his return to one-day international cricket, Marcus Trescothick started promisingly until he was run out for 28 from 31 balls. He hit two fours and a six in the innings. Toward the end of the innings of 258 all out, Paul Nixon was essential to the effort. With a contribution of 36, he marshalled England past the 250 mark.
A target of 259 was always out of reach of Zimbabwe. Terrence Duffin played nicely for his 34. However, Stuart Broad tore through the top and middle order, finish with a maiden 5-wicket haul. Elton Chigumbura and Prosper Utseya took Zimbabwe past 100 in a vain attempt to establish some measure of pride.

Batting stacked for CW XI challenge
Only three specialist seamers have been named in the Cricket Web XI squad that heads to the Champions Trophy. Dave Watt will be joined by youngsters Clapham and Gough in the campaign, with Camps and Robbins expected to fill any other roles in the seam-bowling department. Tom Halsey and Neil Pickup will be relied upon to play well in the attack, given the squad's lightness on fast bowling.
Brendan Goff will lead the team again, and will hope to follow on from recent success in one-day international cricket to finally win a major tournament. Experienced names such as Andrew Cloete and Ian Markus will take places at the top of the order, whilst the youth of Rob Dauth and Dinu DeSilva will look to cement places in the team.
Daniel Towns has been retained in the squad, and he too will hope to make the best of his opportunities. Veteran pacer, Kyle Wright has been dropped.

The Indian batting stumbled, but the bowlers ensured that a place in the second round of the Champions Trophy was never in question. Bangladesh and Kenya were in eliminated by India's win over the latter in the final Pool A match.
Rahul Dravid played positively to score 99, caught down the legside attempting to flick a ball away to reach a deserved hundred. Sachin Tendulkar also shone with 52 from 57 balls, but none of the rest of the batsmen got on top of the Kenyan bowlers, and there was a failure to accelerate toward the end of the innings. India settled for 280-5, a score which would typically be more than enough to see off Kenya. And on this occasion it was no different. Zaheer Khan dismissed Maurice Ouma - a centurion in the last game - and Hitesh Modi early on. Agarker then accounted for Tikolo cheaply with an away-swinger.
