Yes, they certainly need to change things if it's going to be the cash cow they desire. Having crowds of 18 000 and it being on Pay TV is not going to produce a honeypot of cash.

What with the novelty factor this year (being the inaugural year), the marque names of Hayden/Warne etc who probably won't be around for next year, you'd have to think that without the Aus reps (Watsons, Clarkes, Warner's etc) and a few more big names, the current competition has reached its zenith already in terms of appeal.

Yep, but add in all the Indian stars and the SL stars coming over for the tri series and you've got a tidy mini IPL going. They don't need more teams, they need more names and they'll only get that if they create a little window that fits with the International series'.

I think Warne and Hayden have said they're keen to play on next year.

Hopefully next year they can rope in some more high profile imports.

- Three week window of Jan 10-31

- Higher profile imports (perhaps draw heavily from the touring teams)

- Aus reps

- No more teams

- Lots more Yates

And no, or minimal, moving between teams. As I understand it, everybody's contract is up at season's end. They all become free agents. They'll lose a lot of the 'tribal' or 'loyalty' element that they are trying to build up, if there is mass interstate player movement between seasons. Even with the overseas imports, I'm kind of getting used to Vettori playing for Qld/Heat for example.

I think there's a nice balance of Aussie players + imports in the current competition, but get rid of guys like Dernbach and get some real imports in. I'd rather watch Aussie players than imports who are fringe players at best in their own country.

8 teams is perfect although I don't particularly like how there's just 7 games. The Heat's campaign was pretty much over before Christmas with two losses.

As I mentioned earlier on, now that they've proven that the crowds and ratings are decent, I'd like to see CA cut back on the ODI's to perhaps two 3-match series and allow the international players to be available as much as possible. With South Africa touring early next season and Sri Lanka already here for ODI's this season, it might be the perfect opportunity to do just that. Finish the test series at the SCG on 7 January, then run the BBL from 10-31 January as mentioned above. Then follow this up with T20/ODI series in February.

Just on that, T20 is probably the one form where the Aus reps are not actually any better than most of the domestic players. It's such an abbreviated form of the game, that many weaknesses get papered over. From a qulaity standpoint an international T20 is probably not much more skillful than a domestic T20.

Rather, I think the biggest benefit of the Aussie reps would just be their star power, plus they would theoretically expunge the 12 worst BBL players from the existing competition, and therefore improve the overall qualify.

Going to go out on a limb and say that an Australia vs India t20i is alot more skillful than a Thunder vs Heat match up.

There is a huge gap in quality of the Big Bash (and IPL) compared to the T20 World Cups that are played imo.

It is perhaps most clearly evident in fielding.

Would take watching Brax get wickets over Brad Hogg taking 2/8 off 4 any day of the week...
