Yeah Siddle actually had a period where he could really crank it up to the mid 140s. I remember him bowling an awesome spell even slightly quicker than that to Neil McKenzie in a Test - - in his prime he was properly sharp.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't be sceptical of his getting readings like that in 2018 though, of course. I've been convinced they just crank up the BBL readings for a couple of seasons, even after initially writing off my suspicions as "well bowlers can bowl quicker knowing they only have to bowl four." It's definitely not just that.

I'm pretty confident of this now actually. At first I thought I was being paranoid but it's ridiculous how fast some of these readings are coming back as, and they really don't look that fast. It would be a questionable marketing tactic but I guess it's not against any rules.

But it could get interesting if a genuine 150+ bowler starts creeping into record-breaking territory up over 160.

The thing with Shinwari is that most of his deliveries were around the 134-137 mark, which seems about right, then one just randomly clocked 150. Definitely have my doubts about that

It goes to show how unreliable speed readings are, even now, and why you should take "record speeds" with a grain of salt

The Starc 161 ball still has my skepticism thanks to this gobbilty gook.

They don’t need to fake the express bowlers like Stanlake as they have the speed already. BBL is all about hype and wow and did you see that. That includes people reacting to the speed gun. Nothing too interesting if you have guys bowling 130s. No woot woots in that.

Im not sure if people are accusing them of intentionally faking speeds more that the speed measurement devices are unreliable

The more I think about it the more silly it sounds to suggest that they are intentionally faking speeds. It's a fun conspiracy theory though.

you don't need to go to silly lengths to explain consistently dubious readings. it's just a calibration thing.

Ha no conspiracy theory. Just product marketing. I mean the comms go on about speeds in bbl more so than tests. Anyway it could be a calibration thing but surely they’d check before each game right? And why aren’t the expresses overstating their speeds? Enough questions to wonder if it’s deliberate.

I must say that when Archer was supposedly bowling '150' a few nights a go he looked like he was bowling 135. The ball was looping through the air.
