Yep. We used to get more (better) overseas players in general when the tournament was shorter, often a couple of Pakistanis drifting about, and Shakib was here for a year or two (and got absurd amounts of turn off a Docklands pitch that hadn't seen the sun for weeks).

Still feel the best way forward for most other boards is to not try and copy the IPL but go for something unique that works for that market. Why not a Trans-Tasman T20 League with 5 teams from Aus and 3 from NZ? And let 3 overseas players play but this way there is more competition and a wider market and you can also run it in a shorter timespan with games going on at the same time. And it wont stretch the talent pool this thin. It just looks odd when you got 6 FC and OD sides but suddenly 8 sides for the T20 version.
Big Bash is doing more than fine. Probably the most successful thing Australian cricket has.

Yeah I think it’s novelty has worn off but it still draws decent numbers over all. **** all other sport on for a lot of the first part of it and I think it’s basically the default watch for a lot of people over summer these days

They probably hope so but I doubt it. I think it's been a big surprise just how successful it has been. Cricket it Aus is never going to be as popular as AFL, or even Soccer among the huge recently immigrated European poplulation.
