Didn't Rahul and Edgar get hundreds in one of those games? I didn't follow it live though I recall KL forced to have a bash to get to his century. Were conditions particularly nasty on either side of Elgar's innings? And he went big too didn't he.
The 1st innings was pretty ordinary. Kohli played an alright knock of 38 which had more potential (like usual), as did Iyer's 31; and Rahul played a great knock. Elgar also played an ATG innings. I remember people, especially commentators, talking about how Rahul's century was among India's finest there, and then we were hit by that Elgar innings. Overall, it was tough and bowler's friendly, both of those knocks were quality, especially Dean's one was career best. Kohli's came in the last innings and it legitimately looked like no one else knew to bat but him. Don't know if it was the pitch, bowlers or our batsmen; but it was very rough. That 76, I will say was probably a bit better than KL's ton. The 2nd match pitch though was nightmare fuel. Markram played his greatest innings ever, a truly ATG one. On those conditions, those 44 were very valuable, as he was the top scorer and once he got out, I believe 6 wickets fell in 2 runs. The 4th innings hardly matters.

I agree with your overall post except Rahul's innings there was genuinely amazing and better than Kohli's. The pitch flattened and India bowled absolute shite after it.

none of the young guys va e the technique to play in Aus except for Shubman and Jaiswal. lol @ Sarfaraz or frigging Padikkal or Parag. Kohli and Rahul showed their true value in SA. One test agaubst BD is meaningless. This is pakoassion level analysis
Jaiswal pokes at every thing outside of off stump he is just not good enough

He should get to 250-300 wkts and call it a day with an average under 20. Wonder if people would be compelled to waive longevity in his particular case while reckoning ATGs.
I would waive it honestly. Let's say he gets 300 wkts (preferably) he's easily an atg and probably in the top 5 best pacers of all time, more so if his average remains under 20. To average under 20 is absurd. It also wouldn't hurt if he got a 10 for or two. Of course at home, that's almost impossible to accomplish having to compete with Ashwin and Jadeja. He still has a long ways to go though, hopefully his body holds up.

The problems with our left handers esp Shadman, Zakir, Mominul, Shanto have been going on for years and these are not rectified. I think they might have worked a little on those as we are seeing them not going across to right arm pace bowling around the wicket to eliminate lbws. But now they are exposing their stumps taking a leg side -ish mark to get bowled as we have seen also in Pakistan series. DK and tamim talked about Shadman's guard but he was basically avoiding going across as head falls. Similar problems lie with Mominul, Zakir and Shanto. Shanto seemed to be in a better position today but he throws his hand hard which is another problem. I think they need to go back to training more and play first class or A games to work on techniques. It seems like someone bowling right hand pace from around and bowling straight slightly shorter on length will get them easily.

We have Joy and Hridoy who can possibly come in to the team. And if required Miraz can come up. He is much more improved batsman against pace these days. So I'd rather bet on him than those left handers until they work on techniques.

Shakib's eye problem has been going on for quite some time now and he tried many different things to overcome it. But nothing seems to be working and to add to that his rash shot selection not helping either. One cant survive at this level of cricket with temporary solution every other match.

This game is well and truly done and dusted. Tough for the bangers after a positive start. Happily though they get to leave this venue and host city soon.

Whatever it takes!!!
Pant Gill.jpg

Very interesting analysis by MK and DK (Murali Kartik and Dinesh Karthik) on the evolution of techniques in playing spin by coming down the track, esp. the big lofted hits. MK thinks Gill is far more likely to succeed as his weight is moving forward and as a spinner, he would back himself to beat Pant in the air as his weight tends to hang back when coming down the track. DK points out that Pant gets his power and elevation by hanging back and that Pant is likely to get more power into his shot than Gill and therefore, while the spinner might fancy beating Pant like MK said, he is more likely to score more runs more quickly and dent the spinners' confidence as well.

Probably the best passage of technical analysis and commentary I have heard in recent times.

Yeah where tf is Hridoy ffs. He's always looked a cut above Zakir, Shanto and Shadman type mediocrities.

I have to say though, Miraz becoming our best batsman is a pretty massive inconvenience as Taijul shits on him as a bowler. World class spinner currently stuck watching reels on his phone while Miraz sends down disciplined but unthreatening "holding down an end" type stuff*.

*did take a swag of wickets not long ago though

He is absolutely good enough but yeah if Perth and Adelaide have the sort of pace and movement we've come to expect from those decks in the last five years, he's going to need to adjust in a real hurry. He cannot be flashing outside off stump in the same way as he likes to at home.

I missed it but I'm not really sure how hanging back like that is actually helpful vs putting your weight into it? 🤔

Gill = pure leverage

Pant = Pure torque

AKA, tall and short men using/maximizing their physical features

He'll get value for his shots if he flashes hard but he can't half heartedly poke off the back foot like he does. Cummins will exploit that ruthlessly.

Yeah tbf, it's tricky because he's not going to open. Shanto can't be dropped while he's the captain and Mushfiq's still making runs. You'd have to drop Mominul and play him at 4 or 5 as Litton has made nearly all his runs batting at 5 and 6 and been a disaster further up the order. Ideally you'd drop Shanto but it's clearly not on the cards.
