Absolutely buzzing from this. If you'd told me at the start of the year we'd beat New Zealand, win a series against Pakistan and then win a test in the Caribbean, I would have snapped your hand off. The performances against India and South Africa were up there with the most embarrassing and **** I can remember for many, many years, especially so given we've gotten used to hoping for better, but on reflection it's been a good year.

West Indies would probably have expected to beat us 2-0 given the way they've smashed us the last two times, but I think the pitches neutralised what would otherwise have been an insurmountable advantage with their tall fast bowlers vs our hapless batsmen. Some positives for them include their batting in the first test - 450 was definitely more than I expected that batting lineup to be able to get. It was particularly pleasing to see Athanaze get his 90 and then a 42 in a low scoring innings.

For us, Nahid Rana putting out the second big performance of his career is a pretty significant developing. In most of the innings in his career so far he has been ineffectual and got hammered, but this performance follows on from his haul in one of the innings in Pakistan as the second big performance of his career.

The other big development is Jaker Ali showing a lot of balls and some powerful, high quality hitting. That's at least one batsman in this team who isn't a joke.

Some people say God is a Trini
Sweet women parade abundantly
Now de problem is plain to see

Sweet sweet T and T, oh how I love up me country
Sweet sweet T and T, no place on earth I'd rather be

Wonderful, just wonderful.
This singer of this song (Trini to de bone) is the same one who sang the West Indies cricket anthem- Rally, rally round the West Indies. Now and forever

Hes got good instinct to be captain of the team. Atleast better than anyone available right now. A lot of his aggressive nature was missing from Shanto's captaincy. Looking forward.
I liked Shanto's captaincy and thought he was a huge improvement on Shakib, as anyone would be given how toxic it got. But he lost me when it turned out that they'd decided to abandon trying to make it through to a semi-final so they could chalk up a cheap face-saving win. It's a pathetic way to approach competition. I also didn't like the way they'd all drop their shoulders in the field when things started going wrong. Even Shakib's team showed noticably greater resililience in those situations.

If teams are made like their captains, I could imagine our team being committed, resilient and attacking under Miraz. But the problem is we might be stuck with him in our team because he's been alarmingly toothless as a bowler.

I'd also admit that I thought Shanto to be the one for future but I'd like to track back away from that now. He comes across as pretty much someone holding the middle position with neither forward nor backward in his approach. Miraz seems a lot more progressive in his approach. I saw the interview after yesterday's match where he mentioned that he had a chat with his mates before our 2nd innings where he asked to play aggressive and not to worry about anything else. He specifically instructed Dipu and others to attack and not worry about end result.
