Whatever it takes!!!
Also you guys probably will get a run here if you tour during the holidays. Mt Maunganui is a holiday town.
I think India should always play the Boxing DAy and New Year's Tests every year somewhere on a rotation basis. Australia one year, RSA next, NZ after that and maybe at Zim the 4th year? Who else has tests at this time?

Our home season also runs around same period. Not feasible to play boxing day or New year's test every year

Nah.. we have long split ours to Sep-Nov and Feb-March. I think that is feasible. But yes, maybe the 4th year could be us playing home tests during this time frame.

I remember in 2017 CSA had to scrap boxing day test & delay the New Year's test to 5th of Jan as we were playing Sri lanka. You never know BCCI schedules random T20 bilaterals during that same period.

Yeah good post.
Do you remember Jcas that one Sidebottom spell where he ripped us apart and it was like we had never faced left arm swing before. I remember thinking what is going on here, it is just swing bowling. He looked like the second coming of Spofforth in that match.
Haha, that wasn't a high point for NZ batting. The best players were in the engine room with McCullum at 7 and Vettori at 8. That series largely ended the test careers for Sinclair and Matt Bell. Not sure if Sidebottom ever dominated like that again.

Can't agree about McCullum and Vettori being the best players. That was Fleming's last series (got his average over 40) and early Taylor who scored his 1st century in the first test and did well. Sidebottom destroyed us in that series though - 24 wickets in 3 tests which included a 7-fer and a hat trick

So this is what the downward spiral for NZ cricket looks like.

Grim. Peaked too early.

Even if, big if, Bangers take a 50 run lead, they will concede like 400 in the 3rd innings and get rolled for 150 on final day to lose by 200 runs! Thats what they always do. They will crumble soon, if not tomorrow then on day 5.

don't think I've ever seen a softer dismissal

Wags should have been batting ahead of Southee anyway, Wags *second test fifty coming up.
this may seem unimportant to some, however I'm convinced NZ have had their batting order wrong for years now.
TIM SOUTHEES innings of 77 not out on his test debut is nothing short of a MYTH.
who apart from MATTHEW SINCLAIR and DEVON CONWAY(only temporarily) scores their highest test score on debut?
certainly for a bowler, that has played for many a year, high scoring on their 1st of 115 innings is PUZZLING.
would much prefer to see him at 10, even 11 in cases.
both SOUTHEE and BOULT average about the same, but surely if Trent had been given Tims opportunities that would be different.
the point is you want batsman who can stay in as long as possible so your better batman can score as much as possible,
as well as building on partnerships throughout the innings.
one thing you can always be confident about, is that when Tim comes to the wicket, the next wicket will be falling quite quickly,
regardless of whether he gets a quick 20(usually not).
much handier to get a quick 15-20 batting at number 11.

what an unbelievable day for Bangladesh, surely their best day of test cricket against a top tier country for a LONG time.
to snaffle up the last 5 wickets for 58 runs and score 175/2 actually gives them a realistic chance, 10-1 in fact overnight.
day 3 is massively important for the visitors, if they can't back it up, and NZ start scoring runs, all the hard work will vanish quickly.
rather than set their targets too high, they should aim for around another 200-220 runs, giving them a lead of 60-80,
with somewhere between 30 mins to an hour to put some pressure on NZ before stumps.
will be interesting to see if they can back it up with another strong day, but can't help but feel NZ kicking back at some stage.

Really pleased with the performance so far. However, there is still a lot of cricket to be played and NZ are the world champs for a reason. Could easily lose 7/70 or smth crazy like that tomorrow and be facing a large 4th innings chase.

Yea get the feeling nz are very rusty at the moment. I think NZ will slowly work back into the game, by the time for the second test they should be humming again, in time for SAf.
Bangladesh have had the best of conditions and kept themselves in the game. If they were a better side, I'd say they had a great chance of pushing for a win.

Not sure what to make of Joy based on this innings. Sort of feels like he could get out any moment mixed with looking quite sound at times.

'Wagner makes stuff happen'.

But mainly just a bad shot from Joy after a good innings. One more before second new ball and NZ are in.
