Can we pick Davies now?

Also would have picked a proper seamer instead of Wright, given the balance.
Word, Scaly. IMO Kieswetter would possibly be benefited from a move to a different county where his batting would be more thoroughly tested...because at the moment, he doesn't seem to have the game to play against decent pace bowling with success. I still don't understand why he was leapfrogged straight into the team ahead of Davies when Davies had been doing far better in one-day games for the last few years. Time to give Davies a go again IMO...and this time not at No.6!

Nice Start from Trotteh though, looks like he has a point to prove. Two very nice boundaries there.

Think you're being a tad kind on the lad KP, could've driven a bus between his bat & pad today
I guess so. There are clearly some technical issues there, but as Athers rightly pointed out, those technical flaws that have been getting him out this summer, are the same characteristics of his technique that allow him to be so fluent through the off-side. There's definitely some concern regarding his place in the side, but I'd personally stick with him for 1 more series, simply because I see the selectors ignoring Davies and going back to Prior, which doesn't really leave us in a better position. Would help if England started scheduling some games at Taunton too...

Nah, Davies moved from Worcester to Surrey for this season, and has been putting some mighty fine performances in, in County Cricket for the last 3 seasons, averaging over 50 and striking at over 100. Should definitely be next in line, I just worry that the England selectors will go back to Prior. Proves how good he is though, if Scaly's calling for his selection ahead of Mustard. =p

Yup, definitely strikes me as a hit-miss type player, somewhat in the McCullum mold. It's not such a bad thing if you have a more solid & orthodox opener like Strauss at the other end.

Another delightful looking day in the Midlands..

Bangas to romp this and deservedly take the series win.

Not caught up with the thread so will just say:

-what a game on Sat!
-Well done Bangas!
-Fair play to Ian Bell
-Get Davies in the ODI team instead of Kieswetter

50 for Strauss. Been a very good innings thus far, needs to accelerate from here and get himself a century. Can't really afford to have 2 guys striking at around 70 for the majority of the innings, as we'll probably end up only making 250, whereas the par score looks more like 280-300 here. Could really do with Trott's strike rate improving. I thought we were going to see a more positive innings from Trott today, as he was striking at 88 early in his knock, but that's now dropped to 68, and was as low as 62. If we're going to get upto a good score, he needs to start showing more intent.

You're missing something. I thought it was quite obvious that the best time to take the Batting powerplay was in the last 5 overs, after you've had a collapse and the bowlers are in?

This is good from Trott. Starting to show some intent, got the strike rate from 68 to 75 and is starting to accelerate his innings nicely. Needs to keep it going now, and not go back to blocking.

Do you really want Strauss and Trott at the crease, of all people, when you take that?
Strauss is perfectly capable of taking advantage of the fielding restrictions. Trott should be given that he's got 50 to his name, otherwise he shouldn't be in the side. Thing is, you're rarely going to get, say, Collingwood & Morgan well set, so you'd hope that two experienced and established batsmen could adapt their game. Otherwise, it's called when two of the middle order have just come in or two of the bowlers are batting.
