Yeah, I saw Mashud's comments in today's Daily Star. He still thinks he is indispensable. Someone with his attitude, not to mention his poor batting and declining keeping form, probably should not be in the national team anyway.

If BCB can't go ahead with the DPL, the best thing they probably can do is to start a residential camp in BKSP and arrange a challengers series there among the national team, A-team, and the Academy team.

Thanfully the blockade subsided in time for the cricket to start. However, there will be an indefinite siege of the President's residence from January 14, a blockade from January 14-15 and from 17-18, plus a hartal on January 21-22 if the polls are not cancelled.

Mirpur: Old DOHS (1-0) beat Young Pegasus (0-1) by 7 wickets
Young Pegasus 126 (40.1)
Dollar Mahmud 3-13, Shahadat Hossain 3-36
Old DOHS* 128-3 (36.3)
Mehrab Hossain jnr 4, Tamim Iqbal 54 (75), Ehsanul Haque 44*

DOHS begin with a predictable win. Tamim celebrates his inclusion in Bangladesh's provisional 30-man pool for the World Cup with a solid fifty.

Fatullah: Sonargaon (1-0) beat Partex (0-1) by 8 wickets
Partex 44 (20.5)
Rashid Hanif 10 (37), Mahbubul Alam 5-24, Ashiqur Rahman 3-15, Mohammad Sharif 2-3
Sonargaon* 45-2 (10.4)
Alok Kapali 13*

Mohammad Ashraful only needed to use three bowlers in a comprehensive thrashing.

BKSP: Victoria (1-0) beat Indira Road (0-1) by 9 wickets
Indira Road* 190-8 (50)
Golam Mawla 52 (73), Arifur Rahman 32; Jaffar Qureshi 4-??
Victoria 191-1 (33.5)
Hasanuzzaman Rosel 129* (108b, 19x4, 1x6)), Nasiruddin Faruque 52* (93, 4x4)

Hasanuzzaman and Nasiruddin kept the Twenty20 flame burning by adding an unbroken 186 for the second wicket.

For Victoria, Jaffar Qureshi took 4/24 and Waseluddin 2/34.

Most of the players of Young Pegasus are from Rajshahi. Because of the blockade they could not come to Dhaka earlier, and barely made into the city yesterday morning after a night bus journey.

Yeah, I saw that as well. Probably not the best preparation, particularly as they were then asked to bat in the morning fog.

Fatullah: Mohammedan (1-0) beat Kalabagan (0-1) by 5 wickets
Kalabagan 196 (50)
Uttam Sarkar 32 (53), Monirul Islam 46 (78), Rashidul Islam 45 (62), extras 43; Aftab Ahmed 4-32
Mohammedan 198-5 (37.4)
Imtiaz Hossain 55 (67, 6x4, 2x6), Aftab Ahmed 32, Rahat Elahi 50* (76, 7x4), Saghir Hossain 16*

Kalabagan collaped to 94-7 in the face of Aftab Ahmed's medium pace, before Monirul and Rashidul added 80 for the eighth wicket. Although Mohammedan lost Junaid Siddique early on, a partnership of 109 between Aftab and Imtiaz, plus an unbeaten fifty from Elahi, an overseas player in Uttar Pradesh's Ranji One-Day squad, carried them home.

BKSP: Abahani (1-0) beat Biman (0-1) by 5 wickets
Biman 142 (45.2)

Zahoor Elahi 40 (76), Mosharraf Hossain 33 (65), Sajjad Kadir 18*; Mashrafe Mortaza 2-15, Mohammad Shahzada 2-30, Manjurul Islam 2-22
Abahani 148-5 (37.5)
Nazmus Sadat 68 (109), Jahurul Islam 25, Tushar Imran 20* (29)

In a match reduced to 48 overs-a-side, Biman slid to 27-4 before Zahoor and Mosharraf put on 71 for the fifth wicket. In reply, Nazmus and Jahurul effectively settled the game with an opening stand of 62 in just 11 overs.

Dhanmondi: City Club (1-0) beat Brothers Union by 3 wickets
Brothers Union 173-9 (50)

Anisur Rahman 42, Lablur Rahman 42; Kamrul Islam 4-31
City Club 174-7 (46.5)
Shahriar Nafees 17, Wasim Nayeem 70 (89), Ishraq Sonet 33; Debabrata Paul 2-30, Shafiul Alam 3-32, Humayun Kabir 2-34

In the closest game of the round, Pakistani left-hander Wasim rescued City Club from a precarious 76-5. Brothers had been in even deeper water at 34-6 as none of the top six made double figures, but an embarrassment was prevented by Anisur and Lablur.

In other news, Khaled Mashud needed four stitches in his hand after being surprised by an awkward delivery from Mohammad Sharif and is out for ten days. Either Jahurul Islam or Kuntal Chandra will step in behind the stumps for Abahani.

Wretched luck for Mashud. A Bangladeshi daily said he was having a field day as the keeper before getting injured.

Good to see Sadat and Imtiaz among runs. Bangladesh suddenly has lots of promising openning bats in the pipeline.

Fatullah: Old DOHS (2-0) beat Partex (0-2) by 150 runs
Old DOHS 350-8 (50)
Tamim Iqbal 188 (160b, 12x6, 13x4), Ehsanul Haque, Nadif Chowdhury 31; Sriran Sharif 3-59
Partex 200 (47.5)
Rajin Saleh 41, Rashid Hanif 46, Niamur Rashid 34; Nazmul Hossain 2-17, Abdur Razzal 2-36, Mehrab Hossain jnr 4-41

Tamim Iqbal smashed the highest limited overs score by a Bangladeshi and the second highest one-day score in Bangladesh, only surpassed by Pakistani Ziaur Rahman's 202 in the DPL back in 2001. His total of 12 sixes was also a record for a Bangladeshi, beating the record of 11 set by Junaid Siddique earlier this month. Tamim shared stands of 177 for the third wicket with Ehsanul Haque and 101 for the fourth - in just 9.1 overs - with Nadif Chowdhury. In reply, Rajin Saleh and Rashid Hanif gave Partex a degree of respectability.

BKSP: Sonargaon (2-0) beat Kalabagan (0-2) by 35 runs
Sonargaon 230 (50)
Al Sahariar 65 (66b), Alok Kapali 59 (5x4), Marshall Ayub 20; Rashidul Islam 2-44
Kalabagan 195 (47)
Golam Rahman 26, Nahidul Haque 32, Arafat Salahuddin 30, Monirul Islam 28; Ashiqur Rahman 2-22, Alok Kapali 4-19

Alok Kapali's hattrick gave Sonargaon a comfortable win, despite a less than convincing display with the bat. Defending a modest 230, Sonargaon made early inroads, but Kalabagan dug in hard before Kapali dimissed Rashidul Islam, KM Shakil and Mahmuduzzaman with the last three balls of the 47th over to seal the match.

Dhanmondi: Young Pegasus (1-1) beat Indira Road (0-2) by 3 wickets
Indira Road 242-5 (50)
Mehdi Hasan 27, Mohammad Rasel 42, Shafiul Alam 52, Golam Mawla 85* (9x4); Saif Mahmud 2-58, Mohammad Reza Sunny 2-29
Young Pegasus 245-7 (45.5)
Rabiul Karim 30, Lalmohan Hossain 38, Raisul Islam 53, Saif Mahmud 66*; Murad Khan 3-29

In a thrilling game at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium, Young Pegasus recovered from 113-6 in the 21st over to haul over Indira's Golam Mawla dominated total.

Impressive feat by Tamim. This should pretty much warrant him a place in the Bangladesh A-team against England A-team next month, at least for one day matches (lets hope the Bangladeshi selectors are not so silly to send him to the Caribean instead).

Jumbo, you got some of the names wrong- Sriran Sharif ---> Shirhan Sharif, Mohahammad Reza Sunny ---> Maruf Reza Sunny.

Thanks for that. I disagree about Tamim though (and I think James does). He should go to the World Cup, purely because he offers something completely different at the top of the order. Mehrab Hossain jnr is a bit of a plodder for my liking.

Efaz, you obviously seem to know your stuff. Do you have any links in the Bangladeshi media/BCB, because I'm trying to get hold of a few missing scorecards from a) last year's DPL; b) this year's CCL and c) this year's Twenty20. I've tried emailing the BCB's website, but I've had no reply.

Mirpur: Mohammedan (2-0) beat City Club (1-1) by 2 wickets
City Club 172 (50)
Wasim Nayeem 32, Mustafizur Rahman 46 (70b), Sirajullah Khadeem 26, Ishraq Sonet 25; Tapash Baisya 4-38, Manjural Islam 2-13, Aftab Ahmed 2-21
Mohammedan 177-8 (49.2)
Junaid Siddique 26, Habibul Bashar 30 (62b), Saghir Hossain 32 (53b), Tapash Baisya 23 (57b); Tareq Aziz 3-43, Ishraq Sonet 2-30

A last over boundary from Arafat Sunny sealed victory for Mohammedan in a low-scoring game. No batsman really appeared fluid at the crease, including the likes of Shahriar Nafees and Saqibul Hasan, who both failed. Tapash Baisya continued his push to a national slot with a strong allround display.

BKSP:Abahani (2-0) beat Victoria (1-1) by 5 wickets
Victoria 188 (44.2)
Waseluddin Ahmed 30, Jaffar Qureshi 56; Suhrawadi Shuvo 4-11, Mohammad Shahzada 3-20, Mashrafe Mortaza 2-35
Abahani 189-5 (43.5)
Nazmus Sadat 36, Jahurul Islam 45, Imran Abbas 57*; Jaffar Qureshi 2-28. Waseluddin Ahmed 2-30

In a game shortened for 48 overs a side, Victoria fell to 79-5 against a strong Abahani attack before being revived by allrounders Waseluddin and Qureshi. Their total was no match for the in-form Abahani opening pair of Nazmus and Jahurul, who set the early pace with a 66-run stand. However, Abahani's imjury problems continued as Manjurul Islam Rana joined Khaled Mashud on the sidelines. He is expected to be ruled out for two weeks after he picked up an injury in the field.

Fatullah: Biman (1-1) beat Brothers Union (0-2) by 53 runs
Biman 267-9 (50)
Javed Omar 38 (82b), Raqibul Hasan 87 (111b, 7x4, 1x6), Zahoor Elahi 84 (81b), Debabrata Paul 2-35, Humayun Kabir 2-53
Brothers 214-9 (50)
Hannan Sarkar 51, Imran Ahmed 72, Rubaiyat Haque 39*; Farhad Reza 2-11

A strong top-order display from Biman set up a comfortable victory over Brothers, despite encouraging displays from Hannan Sarkar and Imran Ahmed.

Sorry to disappoint you, I am just a regular follower of Bangladesh cricket, don't have any special connection to anyone.

Last year's DPL scorecards ? I thought TigerCricket domestic section has them all, except the ones from the relegation league. I know TC has not put all the CCL and Twenty20 scorecards, but you can try this section for match reports. Cricbd also has a good archive of match reports.

Cheers, they're basically the sources I use. Tiger Cricket has all the scorecards from last season bar (as you say) the relegation playoffs and annoyingly one game between City Club and Orient (I think). Good to see that they're getting this year's DPL scorecards up pretty quickly.

Looking at the fixture for next two rounds, some exciting matches are coming for Mohammedan (vs Biman, Victoria) and Sonargaon (vs City, Biman), while Old DHOS (Indira, Kalabagan) and Abahani (Pegasus, Indira) will, most likely, keep bashing the minnows.

Old DHOS supposed to meet Abahani on the fifth round. Provided Abahani will have their full bowling attak (Mashrafe-Ziaur-Shahzada-Suhrawadi. Rana won't be there due to injury) fit for that match, if Tamim can do well, nothing will probably stop him to go to Zimbabwe with the national team (this will be the last DPL round before team selection on the 25th). The match should be a good test for Mehrab Jr too. I hope the match won't be played on Dhanmondi ground (wickets of the ground are way too unsupportive for bowlers and the ground itself is too small).

Dhanmondi: Abahani (3-0) beat Young Pegasus (1-2) by 71 runs
Abahani 275-9 (50)
Jahurul Islam 49 (40b), Nazimuddin 38 (54b), Tushar Imran 56 (73b), Naeem Islam 40* (40b), Mashrafe Mortaza 44 (40b); Sharifullah 3-36
Young Pegasus 204-6 (50)
Rabiul Karim 104, (120b, 12x4) Saif Mahmud 62* (99b, 4x4); Ziaur Rahman 2-19, Mohammad Shahzada 3-31

A glorious hundred from youngster Rabiul Islam, scored against one of the league's best attacks, was not enough to topple an impressive Abahani outfit missing several key players. Pegasus had looked dead and buried at 62-4, but a 102-run stand between Rabiul and Saif Mahmud almost resurrected an unlikely dream. Rabiul hit twelve boundaries in all, four of which came off successive balls from Tigers' paceman Mashrafe Mortaza. Earlier, Abahani's batsman made short work of a weak Pegasus attack, although they were helped by some shoddy fielding and poor umpiring.

BKSP: Old DOHS (3-0) beat Indira Road (0-3) by 10 runs
Old DOHS 209-9 (48)
Khaled Mahmud 82* (103b, 7x4), Abdur Razzak 31 (31b, 3x4, 2x6), Dollar Mahmud 25 (45b); Mohammad Rasel 3-31
Indira Road 199 (46.2)
Mohammad Rasel 75 (82b) Sumon Barua 26, Moniruzzaman 27; Abdur Razzak 4-23, Khaled Mahmud 2-45

Lowly Indira almost sprung a surprise on the champions, but were denied by Khaled Mahmud, the eternal warrior of Bangladeshi cricket. With DOHS deep in the mire at 98-7, Mahmud forged a match-saving eighth wicket partnership of 70 with Dollar Mahmud to resurrect a desperate situation. Abdur Razzak, who had also contributed a breezy 31 with the bat, then ran through Indira to complete a nervy and entirely unconvicing victory.

Fatullah: Kalabagan (1-2) beat Partex (0-3) by 6 wickets
Partex 200-9 (50)
Rafiqul Islam 63, Niamur Rashid 44; Arafat Salahuddin 3-23
Kalabagan 201-4 (39.3)
Nahidul Haque 68 (113b), Shahabaj Butt 91* (80b, 12x4, 1x6)

Kalabagan's first victory of the season came virtue of a 111-run stand between Nahidul and Butt, after they had lost both openers, Uttam Sarkar and Golam Rahman, for ducks. Partex's total was solid, but never really looked like threatening a decent Kalabagan batting lineup.

Rabiul Karim sprung quite a surprise this round. An eleventh grade student, this DPL is his first time in a Dhaka league.

Mirpur: Biman (2-1) beat Mohammedan (2-1) by 61 runs
Biman 155 (49.2)
Mushfiqur Rahman 40 (64b); Manjurul Islam 2-21, Aftab Ahmed 2-37, Saqibul Hasan 2-14, Arafat Sunny 2-24
Mohammedan 94 (40.5)
Saqibul Hasan 53 (105b, 4x4); Syed Rasel 2-12, Mosharraf Hossain 4-11

Biman somehow managed to defend 155 against highly-fancied Mohammedan, who collapsed to 20-4 after Habibul Bashar senselessly ran himself out on a low, slow wicket.

Fatullah: Sonargaon (3-0) beat City Club (1-2) by 7 wickets
City Club 213 (49.4)

Gazi Salahuddin 55, Shahriar Nafees 28, Mustafizur Rahman 38, Ishraq Sonet 28; Mohammad Sharif 3-37, Alok Kapali 3-23
Sonargaon 214-3 (48.3)
Al Sahariar 64 (75b, 9x4), Mehrab Hossain jnr 93 (139b, 10x4), Alok Kapali 34 (53b); Sirajullah Khadeem 2-33

Sonargaon's strong top order produced an accomplished display to overhaul City Club's average total, Alok Kapali again putting in a good all-round performance.

BKSP: Victoria (2-1) beat Brothers Union (0-3) by 3 wickets
Brothers 270-4 (50)
Hannan Sarkar 29, Anisur Rahman 80* (71b, 6x4, 3x6), Fahadullah 106* (88b, 8x4, 4x6); Suhrawadi Shuvo 2-32
Victoria 271-7 (49.3)
Imrul Kayes 41, Nasiruddin Faruque 94 (114b, 11x4), Jaffar Qureshi 39 (37b, 4x6), Waseluddin Ahmed 26, Mushfiqur Rahim 25* (20b); Debabrata Paul 2-60, Saju Dutta 2-49

Brothers' season got worse as they suffered their third straight defeat to Victoria. Despite Fahadullah's ton and a 197-run partership between him and Anisur, Brothers' bowling was cut to shreds by the Victoria batsmen. Mushfiqur Rahim demonstrated his maturity by guiding Victoria home.

Yeah, match reports say Mirpur wicket was damp yesterday, the ball was coming late and low to bat. Instead of applying themselves, Mohammedan's twenty20 star trio (Junaid-Imtiaz-Aftab) wanted to blast their way through and perished in the process (may be the twenty20 phase should be scheduled at the end of the league, not at the beginning). But the biggest turning point of the match was Bashar's run out- even after seeing usually dependable Farhad Reza had picked up the ball, he called for a third run !

Dave Whatmore was there to watch the match (this, I believe, the second Mohammedan match he went to see) and he was not happy at all what he saw.

I'm not sure when you'll have today's update: my usual source (cricBD) hasn't been updated yet, but some of the other news sources have. Two big surprises though, with DOHS falling to Kalabagan, in perhaps a greater shock, Partex beat City Club. Abahani did not fall victim to a giantkilling however, they beat Indira by six wickets.

OK, here it goes-

Mirpur: Abahani (4-0) beat Indira (0-4) by six wickets
Indira 131 (46.4)
Mashrafe 2/27, Ziaur 2/23, Gazi Alamgir 2/19
Abahani 132/4 (43.1)
Kuntal Chandra 54*(125b), Imran Abbas 47(89b)

After Abahani pacers had done a regulation job of bundling out Indira for a low score, Abahani’s substitute keeper-opener Kuntal Chandra and Pakistani recruit Imran Abbas had shown how to bat on a difficult Mirpur wicket.

Fatullah: Old DOHS (3-1) lost to Kalabagan (2-2) by 4 wickets
Old DOHS 239/6
Mehrab Jr 32(90b), Tamim Iqbal 49(58b, 4x8), Hasanhta Fernando 48(64b), Ehsanul Haque 37(36b), Khaled Mahmud 26*; Kamrul Islam 3/60
Kalabagan 242/6 (45)
Mahbubul Karim 72 (93b, 4x9), Shahbaz Butt 102(93, 4x17), Arafat Salahuddin 20*; Shahadat Hossain 5/41

The biggest upset of the league so far. A super slow innings from Mehrab Jr meant DOHS could throw only a moderate target to Kalabagan on a batting friendly wicket. Their bowlers started well defending the total when they reduced Kalabagan to 10/3. But then, Kalabagan’s newly promoted opener Mahbubul Karim formed a partnership with Pakistani Shahbaz Butt that took the match away from DOHS. The partnership worth’s 174 runs. Former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud turned out to be the most expensive bowler of the day as he gave away 74 runs in his 10 overs. Shahadat bowled well to take five wickets, but could not help the situation much. Even he was taught a lesson by Butt not to bowl too many short ones when he went for four 4s in an over.

BKSP: Partex (1-3) beat City Club (1-3) by 4 wickets
City Club 136 (42.3)
Rezaul Islam 4/20, Dipazzal Dey 3/43
Partex 139/6 (41.3)
Sirajullah Khadim 2/27

Rezaul Islam and Dipazzal Dey ripped apart City Club for a low total. No batsman from either side had a big score, but Partex had little trouble cruising past their target.

Good to see Shadhadat bowling well, pity that Mehrab had to bat so slowly though because he's not really doing himself any favours if he continues in that fashion.
