Ronchi will be the next long-term keeper for Australia. Great to see him getting off to a nice start this season with that explosive 59 against Victoria. Let's see more of that! Hopefully he will be like Gilly, far better wearing the Green & Gold than when he's wearing his state colours.

Haddin should be the immediate replacement for Gilly, he is quality. I mentioned earlier in this thread this is a big season for the likes of Ronchi & Hartley.

Pffffft Haddin, why put a bloke there who's only going to fill Gilly's shoes for 2-3 years at best, why not put a Crosthwaite etc. in who can be there for at least 8 or so years.

Well Gilly started late too and look how he changed the game. Plus remember that most aussies start in their late 20s

What's Crosthwaite done to deserve to be next in line?

What's Hartley or Ronchi done? Besides, it's not what they've done, it's what they'll do.
They've done nothing more than what Haddin has done. Haddin is definitely the next in line if Gilchrist is to retire from the game or one form of the game within the next 2 years. I think Hartley is the leader of the pack behind Haddin given that he replaced Haddin for Australia A when Haddin was injured, but that's not to say that any of the others won't be selected. All this talk of Ronchi being the next in line is very premature, he hasn't done anything except one 20twenty innings.

Yeah I find it staggering that both Ronchi and Crosthwaite are talked up as neither have really done anything with the bat other than the odd cameo in 20/20 cricket. Especially Ronchi as he is 25 already!

What do you expect from Crosthwaite? Him to have 10 centuries to his name already? He's only just 22 remember, he'll come good.

Fair enough, but he's not the best with the gloves. He may not be the best batsman of the bunch, but Hartely is clearly the best gloveman of the lot. The good thing is they all have a lot of potential and at least one or two seasons to show their abilities until national honours are near, will be an interesting battle.

Prefer Hartley to all of them to be honest. Haddin will probably get the gloves immediatly after Gilly's retirment, but it really should be one of the younger guys.

Gilly will probably only see out the world cup so if he wants to be the next keeper ahead of Haddin he would want to come good pretty soon.

This is the season for Ronchi to produce, he's been talked up but he hasn't really done anything of significance.

Anyway post Haddin the next keeper will come from Tasmania so we can all stop bickering.
LOL!

Who will that be? Clingellefer, Paine or Dawson? Or some other keeper who will be selected for the next game?

Paine was the Aus u-19 captain and is playing as a specialist opening batsman for Tasmania in the pura cup this season. From 9 ING games last year he averaged 38, double any of the other prospective options. Done more than Crosthwaite already.

But, he's not even keeping in Pura Cup. Not exactly saying to the selectors, "pick me as an international keeper." is he?

I guess that comes down to the specialist keeper v. keeper batsman argument doesn't it. If Haddin does cement his spot in the side we are talking 4 years down the track. I'm sure he will drop down the batting order and keep ahead of Clingeleffer soon enough.
