Would you bring Tom Cooper back for one of them? I notice he made a ton in the Futures League. Trent Kelly had awesome figures too, he must be close to making the squad at least.
I think they obviously need to change something after that performance. I would probably drop C Borgas who has been bad for a while now. Cooper made runs in the futures so probably him, if only because he is the only other batsmen in the squad to play i guess. Wouldn't mind seeing Trevor Christian given a crack near the top of the order, now that the season is over, reckon give him a go at 4.

Really dissapointed with that loss, dire collaspe.

There might have to be a change to the middle order, but I would be tempted to just keep in the same. Before his injury, Cosgrove was batting really well. If someone was to come in for next game agaisnt NSW, it shouldn't be Cooper.

Based on what? He is the only guy outside the current team who has made runs in the second xi comp, and you always seem to base you bowling judgements on futures performances?

Pick Tom Thornton!!...500+ runs at 50 in futures league opening the batting, and he's only 20... Admitedly hasn't been great in Adelaide grade cricket this year though

Just had a look at the grade stats, season average of 14. Even with the future's runs I would rather someone who has performed in grade cricket.

However looking at the season averages, Cosgrove (51) and CBorgas (54) both averaging >50, I take back what I said and definately don't think they should be dropped. Concerned about D Harris though, think SA should have a crack at Warner and that opening spot could be his. Would love to go watch a batting lineup of Smith, Warner, Klinger, Cosgrove, Cooper, Borgas, Christian, Manou.

Based on what he bats like. If you guys think Cosgrove dosen't have the mental strength for a good first class batsmen, then Tom Cooper dosen't either, the guy just can't stop himself from playing stupid shots at the top level.

I think victoria would be favourite to pick up warner, shipperd coaches him at dehli daredevils, vics have a vacant opening spot in the one dayers, and a vacant position ito replace brad hodge, lloyd mash has not cut it,finch is averaging 20's in that spot.

Cosgrove has averaged 50 this year, and made a lot of first class runs. He is a good first class batsmen. People on here question his application because based on his talent he should be playing test cricket, he hits the ball as cleanly as anyone on the first class circuit. Also Cooper hasn't actually been getting out to "stupid shots" other than one one-day match recently, and if you count getting out slogging in a T20 as stupid?

Also domestic one day matches are a long way from the Top Level.

According to the herald sun the pura cup final could be cut, with the changes to the kfc cup, which would have 8 city teams, and later 10.each city would have 6 best players plus 3 overseas players and the rest would go into a transfer pool.

Nah I made an error in my post before, Cosgrove is a very talented batsmen but theres doubt about his mental strength/application to live up to the potential. Well
Cooper has played a few first class matches for the redbacks this season, and looking at some of those dismissals, most of them are from rash shots, and no I don't count 2020 for ****.

I don't live in South australia so I'm not up to date with all the grade scores sometimes. Anyway looking forward for the squad for this weeks game, hopefully Bailey dosen't play. Got a strange feeling Dan Cullen will be included in the squad. Hopefully the SCG pitch isn't to flat.

I'll probably be going to the FC match at the SCG this week, day 1 and day 3 most likely.

Borgas' numbers are propped up by one big unbeaten score, though. Nothing new for him either. Similarly Cosgrove but to a lesser extent.

That's more the point for me. It's the same old story, these guys get a score, cement a place then rest on it for the rest of the season. I remember when SA won the Shield last, had 4 guys (Nobes/Lehmann/Siddons/Webber) posting tons consistently. Harris has had a miserable post-Christmas but he's captain and having done so well early in the season, a downturn was a little expected. Unlike the other two, he's at least showing signs of being on the up too.

For mine, one or both of Cosgrove/Borgas needs a spell.

My god that sounds ****ed on so many levels.

1. Why the **** tinker with the actual teams in the Big Bash; teams that people identify with? Cricket in Australia has never been city-based. City-based teams have no history.

2. Why would you sacrifice the most important five days of the best domestic FC comp in the world, just for an extra one or two Big Bash games? Why not start the season a week earlier if you really need those five days. Why do the extra days have to be at the expense of the Shield final for?

3. Why put players into a pool, where you would end up having West Australians playing for Eastern states, and Eastern state players playing for states where they have never resided? How do you identify with a team when blow-ins are populating it?

Absolutely ****ed on so many levels.

Here's why.

Recent finals:

08/09: The Home of CricketArchive
07/08: The Home of CricketArchive
06/07: The Home of CricketArchive (Oh god grant lambert opening the batting :laugh::laugh:)
05/06: The Home of CricketArchive
04/05: The Home of CricketArchive
03/04: The Home of CricketArchive

Pick the odd one out.

The final is great in theory, but in recent seasons really has just been a waste of time. All the home team has to do is draw the match, which leads to flat pitches and high, slow scoring. The wonderful 04/05 final being the exception, and look what happened next season on the same ground...

It'll be sad to see it go, but you can see why they're thinking about it...

Agreed, the Shield final has been **** for ages. Not as if the Sheffield Shield has had one for even the majority of its history anyway.

But not worth sacrificing it on the alter of two extra Big Bash games.

There's no sense in that.

Find five days on the other 360 days on the calendar.

Agreed. Mainly because I want to flog Victoria again. But still, sacrificing any shield match is dire.
