surely Coyte is the only person to take a hat-trick while having a FC bowling average of above 150.

If that happened I still reckon Hughes, Hussey and North would all line up in the first Test.
 Yeah this probably. What does one need First Class runs for?

I'd have already given North and Hussey their marching papers a long time ago if given the chance. Basically, because of a stubborn selection policy, we're approaching a big series with a shocking middle order and inexperience on the bench.

After having his hat trick ball dropped last game, Coyte has now taken a hat trick against Queensland haha
Haha. He's such a dire bowler at this level as well, especially by NSW standards. His average was about 200 before he snagged those two tailenders; he took one wicket in his first two Shield games. I'd definitely rather have Lambert or Henriques, as frustrating as those two are. I'm guessing the latter much be injured though.

Lets pretend though, the selectors have a eureka moment and none of the above are shoo-ins. What then? There is Khawaja and Smith, but that leaves one other spot vacant?

How would that be two spots? It'd be one. And they'd pick Ferguson, unfortunately.

Marsh looking set for another big score. It feels like every season Marsh is going to have his breakthrough year in first class cricket, and yet always fails to touch any lofty heights. Maybe this season, 27 is a good age to be dominating at first class level.

Without a doubt the Australian selectors would consider him closer to Test selection that Rogers and Jaques. Not the right call, but he is right on the fringe at the moment.

Hussey - dead, buried, cremated.

Qld up to their old tricks again - rolled for 76.

I can't believe we knocked back Fatty Cosgrove....

Hilditch on Hussey:

"Mike’s getting out too early in his innings, so we really can’t assess his form. Actually, he’s probably in good form, but we just don’t know, because he can’t get past the first ten balls. We’ll need to have a closer look at him in the Ashes”.

The funny thing is, not even that is true - he's been getting awful-looking 20s and then getting out.

The selectors have basically forced themselves into picking North for the first Test by picking him for the second Test in India and watching him hit a ton (dropping him now would make no sense), but Hussey really seems done. I was pretty keen to drop North and get Hussey down to six to bat with the tail and give the lower order some experience, but he's just not anywhere near what he once was. It's not just a poor patch of form either because it's been going on for a couple of years now. I don't even think he's the best batsman in his family anymore, to borrow a line from Jimmy Ormond.

Yeah some of his 20's in India were fairly painful ones. Could barely get it off the square.

haha, loving how they want to use Ashes Tests to have a look at whether a bloke is in form

Notwithstanding what PEWS said, though; what games has Hilditch been watching?

Wow, what a great message Hilditch is sending. So basically Hussey can golden duck his way right back into the Ashes squad.
