And can you seriously expect him to turn down an opportunity to get some time in the middle (not much, as it turned out) in Australian conditions ahead of the ODI series and a possible chance of playing at the Champions League so whoever he was going to replace could play? Not many people in his position would have said no, IMO.

He is a victim of circumstance, put 'player x' in his position whoever they are and people would feel the same way, nothing against the player IMO

McGain pretty impressive. He has a shield game prior to the SA tour being picked, yeah? If he bowls decently in that, should be a certainty for that series.
