I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Not only is this not the first time by anyone...Hughes to replace a retiring Hayden by the top of next Summer.
You heard it here first.
I'd imagine one if not both of Katman/Haydos will go on for another year, Haydos will probably go after the Ashes (in comes Jaquesy) and Katman probably a year after that (form permitting, obv.). That'd make Hughes 21ish and IMO he'll be ready. I didn't say he'd come in tomorrow (Marsh would probably, though, going on recent selections) but by the time both our currents are gone he will.
Broad and Hughes to be Australia's next long term opening partnership. Broad currently 63.
Surely Hughes will be fast tracked into the national team?
Hughes and Jaques would most likely open with North at 3, I guess, or David Hussey. Cosgrove's game has seemingly gone to ****.
I don't believe there's ever been an Australian cricketer born after me. Siddle is the closest but he's still a good 11 months older than I am.
My guess for the future would be Phil Hughes.
Phil Hughes is going to be our saviour TBH.
Phil Hughes will be long term Australian opener, the rest are just keeping the seat warm.
Give it to Phil Hughes.
Phil Hughes to open for Australia, when Hayden retires IMO. Rogers had he chance, so unless he comes back to NSW he should never play again.
I'm almost 100% certain that if they lost Hayden and Marsh tomorrow, Hughes would play ahead of Rogers.
It isn't right, but I think that would happen.
It's not even the first post by you on the subject...It's not like I'm calling for his selection now. Hayden, I'd imagine, will play for at least another 2 years (tests at least) and I reckon Hughes will be ready to go by then. Adding the fact that Rogers is the wrong side of 30...
EDIT: Shocker of a ball to Jaquesy and he goes LBW to McGain.
OK, time for some crystal ball gazing.
From my observations of the domestic scene, am quietly tipping huge futures for: Callum Ferguson, PJ Hughes and Moises Henriques.
PJ Hughes Watch:
86 yesterday.
Tipping him to roar past Jaques and be next in line to replace Bully Boy Haydos.
Quietly rooting for Horrie Hauritz to run through the SACAs today; I hope Callum is spared though.
Quietly tipping both Callum Ferguson and Phil Hughes to play Test cricket in the next couple of years.
Hughes, form permitting, will probably replace Hayden in 18 months - 2 years. However, Hughes won't get a CA contract this April. That said, Rogers will lose his contract as will Hodge. They will be replaced in the 25 by Katich and D Hussey. I also think Casson will replace Bailey in the 25 - and perhaps Noffke, Bollinger (god forbid) and maybe even Siddle will get contracts.
Come to think of it, it might be a good time to do a Cricket Australia 25 Contracted Players prediction thread. The group is announced in April.
I know you get a complementary Baggygreen when you're a Bluebagger, but Philip Hughes is absolutely destined for the top - on his merits.
