You have never seen Simpson bat have you? Reckon he batting and bowling a lot better then what he capable of doing. An average of above 10 with the bat, is massive for him. As is an average below 50 with the bowl.
No, not seen him. I meant below-par as in below what you would want your all-rounders to get, tbh. He's obviously had a terrible season. I can't see any way that he'll be captain next season.

Lol. A Sheffield Shield final and a Ford Ranger win and semi final of the 20/20. Can't see any way he won't be captain next season (at least at the start of the season). Although the turn around in Queensland's fortunes probably has more to do with Barsby and the quicker bowlers than anything Simpson has done.

I'm yet to see anything to suggest he's not the best spinner in Queensland and he's done a really good job of leading a team not many people rated too highly at the start of the season, so I reckon he'll keep his place.

His batting's obviously been a bit of a letdown but despite what was thought of him as a junior cricketer, he's not really picked for his batting anymore anyway.

I suppose, I just thought they might not have him as captain so that they don't have to play him necessarily. I guess though thinking of him as a spinner, if Queensland have Symonds and/or Watson in the top six next season which is quite possible then it makes more sense.

This season Chris Simpson has out-performed Test Spin bowlers Beau Casson and Jason Krejza with the ball.

Aparently Carseldine is a doubt with a back injury. I assumed Watson was batting three because he wanted a few deliveries after his getting a ball in his face fielding, but presumably it's because Carseldine was injured.

Hey guys,

Excuse me for my slackness after my promise that I would be posting updates from the oval during the Shield match but due to the redevelopment that is happening now on the Western grandstand, there was no internet access up in the match day office; or network cables which made it difficult to do some media duties... as well as cricket web updates! I think it'll be worth it though when the new stand is up; the images from the architects look really modern. (they are retaining the red brick arches for those of you who are for keeping the heritage; I am a fan of the heritage listed parts of the stand myself, and the way they'll build the modern around the old will look great; in my opinion.)

I also didn't work Sat or Sun :D so it wouldn't have been very interesting for you to recieve updates from me then!

Although sitting next to the player's box on Thursday and Friday was interesting as the mood amongst the player's and high performance staff in the box was one of high energy. I have only been to a few matches this season having only been at the SACA for a month now; but the mood in the box was more positive than I have seen.

Winning some great games at home against Queensland in both the Sheffield Shield and the Ford Ranger Cup seemed to give the boys a great desire to continue on that good form and claim another victory at home to give them their third consecutive win since 1994-95. And also to maintain this season's record of not losing outright at home. Even when they got into some trouble on Friday and lost some quick wickets, it didn't seem to dampen their spirits, only spur them on further.

It was also great to hear them being vocal on the field, yelling encouragement to each other the entire day's play when fielding on Thursday.

Mark Cleary seemed to be walking on air (although declined to sit down from fear of not being able to stand again) when a couple of journos and I grabbed some statements off of him on Thursday night; and why wouldn't he be after taking 5/78 that day (and going on to take 10 for the match!)

I would be interested to hear what you guys think of Mark Cosgrove... should SA strive to keep him on side? Is he good enough to play for Australia?

The only interesting news from my time at the match about Mark Cosgrove was him staring at me curiously when I was talking to Nugget (what a legend btw) as if to say; who's this new girl? And also, someone yelling with incredible clarity from the crowd: 'Fat C**t' when Cosgrove got out in the 1st innings.....

What an excellent way to finish the season for the Redbacks, positives all around and no bottom place finishes across all comps. The young guys coming up, Haberfield, Smith, George all seem to finding a place in first class cricket nicely and I (as well as Redbacks fans I'm sure) will be looking forward to what they can do next season.

What a great win on the weekend boys, well done!!

No complaints from me, good selections of the most consistant players in each form of the game. Fantastic to see Lee Carseldine gain selection for all three sides plus win the Twenty20 player of the year. Such a great comeback to the Queensland side after years of injury. Deserves alot of the praise for lifting Queensland towards a FRC final, along with reaching the Shield final. Hope he can continue this run of form for this later part of his career.

Confused that Chris Rogers won FRC player of the year, but did not make the ACA first XI.

Interesting to see so few players from the winning teams in each competition get into the teams. Two in the four-day/one-day and none in the T20. Is this because the winning teams have had relied on single players less?

Queensland severely underrepresented based on their acheivements as a team.

Also confused as to Chris Rogers non-selection in the Franger cup team while winning best player.
