Would usually be levelled at a top order batsman captain who doesn't want to do his main discipline first, don't think that applies here.

It's true it's a risk and does give South Africa a sniff though. Their batting sucks but if their two best (maybe Elgar and Verreynne) can surprise with a big score and Bavuma and co chip in for 30s, any 300+ score gives them a chance given their bowling.

Equally South Africa could get knocked over for 120 and the match is basically over today.

Ok time to jinx Boland. I think it's time he gets a starting place no matter who's available. The side just looks better with him and he seems to provide a point of difference with his consistent lines. Cummins, of course, who is capable with the new ball and bowling hard lengths and Starc are the other two. Hard on Haze, who would probably get a spot in most teams of our past, but what a position to be in.

Haze is one of the best 5 pacers in the world. It's insane he's being left out, but equally it's the right decision IMO.
