I do like the way that us English are all saying we have no chance, and the non-English are now saying we do!

And now that Shoaib's out to rest a back strain, I can see Pakistan's last hope has just left town...

But hey, this is Cricket and anything can happen.

Well not anything in this case!

Does this mean Sami gets another go - I personally hope so - him and Shoaib look to me to be the next new ball pairing (post WC).

Great news for the Waugh brothers, now that Akhter has opted out of the third match, the twin brothers have a great chance of comming up with a big ton.All they have to do is handle Saqlain well!

Stumps day one:
Australia 298/3 Ponting on 142* and S.Waugh 27*

looks like another hard day in the feild tomorow for Pakistan and a chance for Ponting to make a double hundred maybe.

this is what I hate about Shoaib, he bowls 5 quick bowlers and then breaks down for the next 5 matches.
The team's pysiotherapist had declared Akhter fit for the match, it was Shoaib that insisted on skipping the match, thats why he has been immediately flown back to Pak(even though another injured player Razzak is still in Sharjah) and will be meeting the PCB boss soon.

Yes roy, you have to appreciate the strains involved with fast bowling. You may be right about the fitness part but I think its a lost cause out there at the moment. Shoaib is volatile with the fitness issue so why risk it ? makes sense to me. Pakistan look like they are on there way to another, inevitable defeat.

'The News' has learnt from confirmed sources that Shoaib had complained of a minor back niggle after the second Test and was sent to see a specialist and for tests with Dennis Waight. The tests and examination revealed that he did have a minor back niggle but it was not an injury which was cause for concern.

Dennis Waight who has over 22 years of experience of working with top class cricketers advised the team management that if Shoaib wanted he could play in the final Test and it would have no bearing on his future career.

"But Shoaib decided that he would not play the final Test despite the pleas of captain Waqar Younis and coach Richard Pybus that his presence was very important to Pakistan's chances of restoring some pride in the final Test," a source disclosed.

"But Shoaib insisted on not playing the Test after which the manager Brigadier (retd) Khawaja Nasir spoke to the Chairman of the Board, Lt General Tauqir Zia and informed him of the situation."

Tauqir Zia then issued immediate instructions that Shoaib should be flown back to Pakistan and he would like to have a word with him. The source said that the Chairman had now called Shoaib for a meeting in Lahore tomorrow (Sunday) to discuss his non-cooperative attitude with the captain and coach.

If he could have played without doing any harm, he should have played. I dont believe in saving the people for good series etc Even if Pak has lost the series, going for a win in the third test was of utmost importance.

Otherwise, lets just not play any good players in any series and save them for the world cup. This is cricket, they are professionals getting money, and they should play in all the international matches.

If thats true then maybe he believes in what i said earlier, maybe he does think its a lost cause after all. But I thought maybe it was the management that didn't want him to play. Thats not a very pretty story either.

Well, whoever's decision(s) it was, the team's not pulling in one direction.

3-0 coming up. Let's just make sure you don't get bowled out for less than 53 this time, lads...

And someone reckons there's no trouble in the ranks!
Shoaib has an attitude problem, and he had that from the very beginning. He was first selected to play for Pak in a onedayer match against India in Canada, but was suspended due to indiscipline.

However the rest of the team is fine as playing well as a unit, thats a different thing that the youngsters are no match to Australia!

Goodbye Mark?

If think it will be so-long Mark Waugh.

Australia don't want to class players (the Waughs) both droping out at the same time, so they will drop one now and then the other one after the Ashes.

dont drop either they are still class.
especially steve.

im with steve but just because he makes one century does that mean he is out of his form slump.
what happens if he makes a duck in the second innings if there is one.
