Pretty sad depth for Australia when spare bat is averaging 27 in the Shield and the two spare pace bowlers are both 34

I fear you've misunderstood the intent behind my post
I see a poster trying to get the shot in but also laying the groundwork for 'oh but we weren't trying our very best' as an excuse for a very unlikely series loss.

Pick one *****. I expect better from you.

Nah I wasn't even thinking about a pre-emptive excuse, just looking for a novel way to disparage NZ cricketers

I'm going to be honest. NZ losing 2-0 would be shameful, & frankly Stead should be fired if that happens.

NZ not winning a home Test against Australia for over 30 years is embarrassing, especially when NZ has defeated every other team that has toured at least once in that time period. For me at least, losing the series would majorly sour the summer. "Competing" isn't enough; it's been a generation since we've held that darn Trans-Tasman Trophy. If we can't win it now, against a team mostly unfamiliar with NZ, then there are legitimate questions of "can we ever beat them?", & that's a dark place to go.

I think the future of NZ Test cricket will be impacted by this series. I personally don't rate Australia as a rivalry, but it is what it is. I think NZ needs a "2005 Ashes" moment. In my view, there's no excuse anymore to not win at least 1-0.

lol there are plenty of excuses for a start how bout losing to a team with bowlers over 1000 wickets lol

None of them care when they play NZ mate. England, India against NZ are going through the motions, nothing like when they play each other or Australia when they go full oomph. South Africa are demonstrating how little they care right now sending a D side.

Even this series Australia aren't going to go full tilt after the 12 months they've had. Don't get me wrong, NZ will still lose, but their players will perform a lot better on paper than they really are with the Aussies going half pace at them.
Can you let me know within 10 business days as to whether you are a discussor of important cricketing matters, or a troll, so I can respond accordingly. Kind regards, Steven.

Whatever it takes!!!
Given the current form of the Aussie bats I think NZ is a much better batting side right now. That's some pretty impressive batting stats

1. Latham (40.18)
2. Conway (43.52)
3. Williamson (55.12)
4. Ravindra (46.42)
5. Mitchell (53.46)
6. Blundell (39.25)
7. Phillips (45.33)
8. Santner (24.36)
9. Jamieson (19.63)
10. Henry (22.22)
11. Southee (16.22)
@Flem274* - Its still a pretty amazing side though coz all of your bottom 4 can bat, 3 of your top 6 bats can bowl, and the other 3 are keepers.

Surprised inglis/pierson aren't in the squad. Who's keeping cover if we have an injury?
Same with Lyon. No spare WK or Spinner means they don't have a concussion/covid sub for those two.

Should have been a 15 man squad with Hardie, Inglis, Boland and Murphy as the reserves (maybe Neser for Hardie and Inglis is spare bat)

What happened to Boland? I know he got bazballed but still thought he’d be a better shot than Neser

As gun as Neser has been with the bat lately, I think his bowling has actually declined a bit without people noticing because he keeps smashing engine room tons.

Neser is a good selection. He's more likely than most to bowl the correct length.

Not that it will matter because NZ will still fold, but still.
