To quote the great Charles Barkley “I’m not a role model… Just because I can dunk a basketball doesn’t mean I should raise your kids”
Speaking of basketball I looked up how the NBA handled the Kobe Bryant case. That ultimately didn't make it to trial in part due to some disgraceful tactics by his lawyer outing the accuser. Couldn't see any official NBA position but Bryant did issue an apology that Kuggleleign could potentially have used after the trial. That would have been consistent with the text apology he sent at the time. The apology perhaps have also been tied in with the message NZCPA emphasised after his case.

Isnt the issue with what Kuggs did have more to do about being a decent human being than any rolemodel?
There are sort of two issues though

1. Kuggs himself - **** that guy. But you will see most agree his actions are totally inexcusable. He cannot control that he may be put in a position as a role model though you can certainly criticise his total lack of exprsssed remorse or change since. But as a professional sportsperson, sure, he can play wherever someone will pay him to. I think the best result would be him buggering off and being a T20 mercenary in foreign leagues if he wants to just dig his head in the sand.

2. NZC's (and to an extent the Northern Brave's) hypocrisy of pretending to be blind and deaf to his past actions. In terms of criticism of Kuggs position as a rolemodel, these are the bodies on the hook.

Simply put NZC should give itself an uppercut for selecting him, so should the Northern Brave frankly but they're already despised heels so who cares.

MTV had a call-in show with I think Ol' Dirty Bastard as a guest and somebody called up an asked him why he couldn't behave better because kids looked up to him, and he responded with the most incredulous look I've ever seen on a human.

I know it's partly down to it being Australia, but does anyone else think the tv1 broadcasts are boosting attendances?
Oh definitely, there seems to be way more interest even amongst my workmates who have never mentioned cricket before in their lives.

Oi Noi, the Kiwi fans won't give Davey the hero's sendoff he deserves? That's un-****en Australian that is.

Classic media invention of a story

"David do you think the NZ crowd will give you a standing ovation"
"I doubt it, why would they?"
. . .

Headline *Warner bemoans lack of respect from NZ fans, will be disappointed if not given fitting ovation*

I do love that he's managed to trigger the mayor of Oamaru tho

Lol I actually saw Warner and Hodge play for ND in Oamaru all those years ago.

I was a reporter at the local paper. Our sports guy spoke to Warner on the boundary, said he was a friendly bloke. I interviewed Graeme Aldridge (they didn't make Warner or Hodge available) for a preview story as well.

Oamaru is a lovely town and I had a great start to my career there. Beautiful cricket grounds. Valley's oval out in Weston and the Union ground by the harbour in particular.

Hah look thanks to the magic of Facebook albums, here is Warner talking to my mate Dan.

A lovely town yet its population is apparently zero for corporeal human beings

The Mayor doth protest too much, methinks.

Kircher said the town even had the best Mitre 10 MEGA store in the entire country, “with a wide range of sandpaper and other abrasive products – something Mr Warner is more than familiar with”.
