Jaddu’s taken 3 wickets in 5 ODIs since comeback which includes that legside nick. Think it’s time we play both Kuldeep and Chahal despite the hit we take to fielding and batting.

Shankar’s done well every time he’s promoted up the order so he may just start.

Openers
Kohli
Jadhav
Dhoni (to float depending on situation)
Shankar
Pandya
2 leggies
Shami
Bumrah

Long tail but does Jadeja really add that much with the bat to merit losing out on the couple of wickets Chahal pretty much always takes?
It has to be more than that, he had a very good Asia Cup.

Yes, as I said earlier in this thread, it's been a while since India lost an ODI due to its bowling. ICC champions trophy final was one such instance. We didn't have KulCha then and Bumrah wasn't yet the bowler he has become now.
Matches like those are why I don't want Jadeja back. He was a massive liability.

Is there intrinsically something in Jaddu's bowling that makes him suited to Tests, but innocuous in ODIs? Why has wrist-spin become such a must have commodity in ODIs all of a sudden? Can orthodox finger spinners not take wickets in the middle overs anymore with the white ball?

Doesn't surprise me at all that a cricketer like Karthik, with well over a decade long tryst with mediocrity, is suddenly repackaged as a finisher.

In India, polishing the turd is a viable business idea.

Maybe the effect of DRS?

There is lesser restraint from batsmen these days; they try to hit out most things thrown at them. This creates wicket taking opportunity for leg spinners given their ability to flight and mix deliveries. That's my rather simplistic theory.

Finger spinners are more dependent on pitch as compared to wrist spinners . And in last few years pitches have been mostly flat .

I think while in general the word "variations" has become something of a laughing stock - in Jaddu's case the lack of it truly hurts him - once the batsman line him up - he has nothing to offer apart from going flatter and faster, which in the current ODI scene is a recipe for disaster.

Saw Chahal live at the MCG, he was very impressive. Also one of the scrawniest professional sportsmen I've ever seen.

India need to find a way to nominate someone other than Kohli as reviewer. It’s not like it’s the last time they’ll hit Finch on the pads.

India unchanged in 3rd game in a row. This is probably indication that this will be their first choice XI. I would really want Yuzvendra in their in place of Jadeja though.

Edit: Clearly Pandya will be in the first choice XI.

I'm in Thailand so cricket is on Star Cricket, which I assume is Indian channel as so far I think I've seen more of Kholi batting highlights and stats than of the Aussie batting lol
