**Official** Australia in West Indies

Mitchell Johnson's main problem, imo, is that he has been bowling with too much of a round arm. Although his arm was always low, he has been rounding it off more in an attempt to swing it back in to the right hander. This has compromised his pace and wicket taking ability, imo. This is especially true in West Indian pitches where sticking to the basics of a high bowling arm and stump to stump line pay dividens, as Stuart Clark showed.

Hoping for Noffke and Casson to replace Johnson and MacGill tbh, don't really see it happening though. Would be one hell of a tail though; Lee could conceivably be coming in at 10 with Clark at 11.

Feel a bit sorry for him really as he is simply doing what everyone is telling him: bowl an inswinger or your useless. IMO he shouldn't be trying to do too much, but he has to get close to the stumps and that way he can still get LBW's without needing to move it much. I don't know why they're changing his whole action when all he has to do is improve his runup.

A bit dire seeing Ponting defending Johnson post-match. Would love to see Noffers playing in the third.

He's the captain, he should be defending a young bowler in the press. He can do what he likes and make his wishes known to the selector, but throwing your young bowler under the bus would be completely uncalled for. It was plain that Johnson was doing everything Ponting was asking him to do, and while he may not be ready for Test cricket, letting him take the blame for a test match would not be the right thing to do. Ponting did absolutely what he should have done.

Haha SS. Hence, "a bit" dire. As in, dire in the sense that Johnson will probably play the Third Test, not as in Ponting should have publicly crucified him. :)

I've been saying for quite some time that (at this early stage of his career) Johnson is similar to Bracken, in the sense that both are very good ODI bowlers, and can make the white ball talk. In the Test Match theatre though, they both struggle to do anything other than take the ball across the batsman at good pace.
Johnson is much more threatening when he can get steep bounce on responsive pitches. Its the loose deliveries that let the pressure off the batsmen. Once he works that out I reckon he'll be a good deal more effective than Bracken in tests.

Better to have a spinner ready when u may be even forced to have second one in india IMO...Noffke will gt his chance in other countires ???
Would sooner go into India with four quicks than two spinners, given how they relish playing Warne and MacGill. Casson, at best, will be a liability.

Noffke's withering on the vine as it stands. Given the mercurial nature of player form, he may not have the same momentum to call on in the subcontinent. He deserves one Test to show his wares, surely. Showing faith in Johnson is one thing, but wasting prime bowling form for the sake of it is entirely another.

Bridgetown, Barbados and over recent years it been a result wicket which has seen huge scores (and wins) by the likes of Australia and South Africa but also a fair few batting mares by the likes of India, West Indies and Pakistan. If it is anything like the last test match played here (West Indies Pak) it should be an exiting game. Think that was the match when Lara scored a ton at a great lick and Afridi went down swinging, scoring an outrageous hundred.

Fidel Edwards: A Caribbean Cult Classic

If Chris Gayle is the blockbuster (the player that crowds turn out to see) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul the art film (the unglamorous, indie superstar), Edwards is the cult classic. Having arrived on the scene with little hype and no audience familiarity, the fast man commanded brief critical acclaim and box office success.

Ponting looks to alter bowling plans - Australia 'have come back to the pack'

Ricky Ponting has admitted Australia's bowling attack has "come back to the pack a little bit in Test cricket" as they struggle to match the Warne-McGrath era. Australia were unable to force a result in the second Test in Antigua on Tuesday despite bowling for a full day, and Ponting is considering altering his plans for the final game in Barbados from June 12.

Stuart Clark could return to the new-ball duties he has craved, with the developing Mitchell Johnson dropped to first-change, while Beau Casson is in line to to replace Stuart MacGill. Ponting also expects to use more of the part-time spin of Michael Clarke and Andrew Symonds.

Brett Lee was outstanding in taking career-best figures of 8 for 110 in Antigua, but there was less impact from his support staff. "As far as our attack goes, we've probably just come back to the pack a little bit in Test cricket," Ponting said in the Sydney Morning Herald. "We've got Brett and Stuey [Clark], who are outstanding Test bowlers, and we've got Mitch, who is a work in progress, and we could very well have a young spinner the next game. I'm excited about that."

Ponting said it had been challenging operating without Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne. "Brett's done a very good job of standing up in Glenn's absence over the last 12 months and will continue to lead the attack well I'm sure," he said. "The next spinner is the interesting one for me. We'll see how that pans out."

Johnson, who is playing his first overseas Tests, has taken only five wickets in the opening two matches and is expected to be part of a bowling reshuffle. "I don't have any concern with Mitch," Ponting said. "We're probably going to look at Stuey opening the bowling more often than not now, for a number of reasons, like in these sorts of conditions. Mitchell is a great athlete, and generally he'll do what I ask of him."
