Just quietly, these cover drives Smith is hitting against the turn from an offie bowling around the wicket are elite cricket shots, even if he’s only getting singles for them

With Labuschagne it doesn't seem to matter which stat you use to say maybe his credit in the bank is all used up

- During 2025: 3 tests, 32 runs @ 8.00
- Last 12 months: 9 tests, 355 runs @ 23.66
- Since Ashes: 14 tests, 581 runs @ 25.16
- Last 20 tests: 976 runs @ 27.88
- Last 2 years: 24 tests, 1220 runs @ 29.75

An Aussie #3 averaging under 30 for over 2 years is getting into Marsh territory

If Connolly gets runs, move him there.

Been watching for 20 mins, not sure I've seen a ball turn yet. What's happened to the pitch? Looks very straightforward at the mo, and the bowling has not been great.

Seems a bit of a new ball pitch, weirdly. Once the ball gets softer it gets easier to play. Same thing happened around this period yesterday for a while, though it is generally turning more today than yesterday

Seems to be a pitch that for periods of time like an hour it looks as docile as anything. Happened yesterday as well. Not necessarily all in relation to how new the ball was.

The more I watch the more the problem seems to be the bowling. Way too many freebies being offered up either to rotate strike or find the boundary. Smith and Carey are playing well, but they're not really being tested as much as they should be.

This is vintage Smith here. Just manoeuvring the ball into gaps like no one else does. His hands are incredible

... If Smith does go on to score a ton here he will have erased Joe Root's 4 century lead against the rest of the Big 4 in less than just 8 weeks.

Damn impressive considering he was written off by so many people... (if it happens).

He's basically the Aussie Sachin or as close to it now. Don't think we will get another Aus player like this in my lifetime due to t20 degrading the quality of future players.

If the ball doesn't break through the surface it doesn't seem like there's a lot going at all. Off the straight it seems as easy to play as it was through the first two days of the previous game.

Smith entering a second peak as Marnus devolves into Pope? Inject it into my veins
... Which pleasingly somewhat tells you that Smith's decline in the last few years may not necessarily have been due to age but just mental demons & other factors in play & he's got a few good years in left him too.

Pitches were bowler friendly.

If he's in this form in the Ashes, England won't win more than 1 game
