Looked pretty cooked last game tbf. Maybe it's popped up again recently? Could barely land the ball on the pitch vs Smith.
You'd assume this is all done on the back of constant testing and monitoring. Probably they thought it had reached a threshold for instability where he was at risk of significant injury if he pushed it any harder and decided to just bite the bullet.

Well there's the reason Abbott is in the squad instead of Richardson who just can't seem to stay fit.

Richardson is out of BBL to undergo shoulder surgery as a result of the "high-five" celebration injury in November. Makes you wonder how he made the Test squad for last 2 BGT tests with that lingering injury
His career path is shaping up as one of the great what ifs, unfortunately

Zampa had a bit of a whinge when asked about his dashed hopes for a Test spot. Strongly implying that leg spinners are unlikely to play a lot of test cricket in the future. A lot of what he said was true tbf, about the preference for finger spinners in the subcontinent specifically and in general due to greater accuracy on helpful pitches.

Just had a laugh that the bloke who doesn't play any red ball cricket and has a terrible record in it when he does is somewhat blaming not being picked for a Test squad on "it's because I'm a leg spinner"

Yeah, I was just thinking a couple of week's back that a bloke who is fairly short for a fast bowler whanging it down at 140kph+ is a recipe for injury, although of course action matters too. And I guess Wood is only 5cm taller.

Turns out it's not the bowling that gets him. He's actually not built to hand out high five's willy nilly.

The surgery is intended to stabilise the shoulder so there is always hope.
Benji Marshall had 5 shoulder reconstructions up to 2008 after suffering numerous dislocations and a fracture, but then played on in the NRL for an additional 13 years.
Tim Paine had 7 surgeries on a chronic finger injury - a finger which still contains eight pins, a metal plate, and a piece of hip bone - but went from the brink of retirement in 2017 to captaining Australia.

The injury has nothing to do with his build, and there's been good (and quick) bowlers of a similar height.

It's to do with the millions of pre-World Cup JAMODIs and the expectation that players always throw themselves around in the field.

If this was the case, wouldn't all the bowlers who do the same thing also be injured?

Have just spent the last few minutes watching a 165cm tall Fidel Edwards bowling at 90mph. Ridiculous!

But Richardson has only played 15 ODI's in 7 years since his debut

I thought for sure Abbott and Connolly were just in the squad to give them some prep for the Champions Trophy but neither made that squad

Are you being deliberately obtuse?

Diving for everything increases the risk of a serious injury like Richardson's had, and has nothing to do with the relationship between bowling fast and a player's build.

The selection brains trust thinks that Pakistan isn't too great for spinners in ODI matches, which probably accounts for Connolly's omission, as he's being treated as an all rounder. Hope Zampa is in form.

Yeah I don't love Konstas missing Shield but people are forgetting that because this tour starts so soon, he's only actually going to miss max one Shield game.
Yeah if Konstas was missing half a season of shield I think it would be a serious problem, like what’s happened to Hardie, but training with the squad in different conditions overseas will be pretty valuable to his development

Whatever it takes!!!
Honestly think you guys should even try such a side. Khawaja has not been great, I suppose its too radical as he really does not deserve to be dropped but I would be very excited as an Aussie fan if this side goes out to the park.

Has Richardson been the only bloke diving around in the field the past few years? To be honest, he hasn't stood out if that's the case. Diving in the field may have caused his initial injury, but has there been a marked increase in injuries to bowlers related to doing this in the past however many years?

Good to know a fast bowler's physical makeup has nothing to do with how easy they find it to generate pace though & whether or not they are more injury prone as a result. To be fair, they nearly all get injured, so maybe you're right.

Haha you really are just engaging in pure conjecture at this point. His injuries really do have absolutely nothing to do with his build; he popped his arm diving in the field and that's what happened.

I think if it was in a SENA country there would be some chance of him being left out, but he has a reputation for playing pretty well in Asia, though I think that's more Pakistan and UAE tbh, cbf really looking it up.

That hasn't been his only injury though right?

Although there's probably not a fast bowler on the planet reaching 140 clicks or over who doesn't have a lengthy injury record, so his build probably doesn't have anything to do with it.

Does the idea that diving around in the field (or the expectation thereof) is causing more injuries to bowlers hold any water though simply because that's how he hurt his shoulder? Probably not. Unless there is conclusive evidence to suggest otherwise. He was unlucky with his shoulder injury, but most fast bowlers get hurt via a combination of how they go about bowling and the stresses involved in doing something that is so taxing on the body.

If anything Richardson is one of the only blokes who doesn't seem to dive around at all, that's because of his ****ed shoulder though
