It depends a bit on what topic you're keen to read about, but most of the 'best free stuff' I'm referring to isn't even really attempting to make a profit; it's done on an amateur basis.
I rarely read Cricket articles at all. Feel like I get enough out of the sport watching the game and reading what y'all have to say.

Do we like....want to lose. It's one thing to bring in Marsh for one of them, quite another to dump the other one for an all-rounder....

It's not the main reason why we lost but losing 3 tosses in a row on turning wickets is a tad annoying.

**** you ****.

In all seriousness, people are going to have to recognise that quality journalism (i.e. not listicles, clickbait, regurgitated press releases or copy-pasted wire stories) is something they're actually going to have to pay for.
why?

I think he's speaking from experience a bit with the Mind the Windows site he's involved with; I suspect he's looked into it and realised it's very hard to make a profit online just through advertising, and therefore concluded that most of the good stuff will be subscription-only shortly if it isn't already.

As I said though I think he's overlooking the fact that a lot of the best stuff on any given topic is just published on blogs, forums, amateur websites and social media for the fun of it.

Not all free content survives purely through advertising. I'm sure he's been thorough in covering this but there options such as Patreon. As well as sponsorship that still enables independence. Not to mention merchandising etc etc.

It's not simply a case of user pays vs advertising.

I'm not going to pretend that it's easy or that it's a fair system or anything like that but I think "you have to pay for good journalism" is patently not true, and (dare I say it) a bit defeatist. Jesus, that sounded very right wing so I'm gonna stop right there except for saying that I hope good journalists continue to research creative ways of funding their work.

Smash is a player for the future boyz. Just needs that breakout innings
"Shaun and Mo are very good players of spin bowling, so they come into the side at the expense of Joe, who's unlucky, and Uz, who's unlucky.

"It's just the way it has been this tour, so we've got to try to change it around and change our fortunes and see how they go on these types of tracks. It's a tough call on those two younger guys but it's only for this Test match.
