Haha, will never understand the Darsh hate. He's averaging 44 in ODI Cricket for crying out loud.
Yeah, I can understand people saying that his domestic record isn't really good enough to see him rated as highly as he is by the selectors, but that argument loses all weight when those same people say they want Ferguson in the team.

I don't want to see Stan Darsh anywhere near the Test squad until he scores Shield runs more consistently but he should be in the ODI team at full strength (well, at least full strength minus Watto) without question, IMO.

Personally, want Ferguson & Darsh in the team :p

Realistically though, Marsh should be opening in a full strength team, and Ferguson cooling his heels on the bench until there's a spot free in the middle order for whatever reason. Think he should be ahead of White in the pecking order to, but we all know that won't happen.

Oh, and I love how the Official Cricket Australia website can spell Michael Clark's name right....;)

Why do we have to fully wrap these players in cotton wool? This is just ridiculous, what happened to the good old days where players played every single game. Sure Siddle and Hilfenhaus have minor minor niggles, but you could give them 1 or 2 games at least.

Also, why the hell have the selectors just pigeon holed Hughes as a test specialist? He's on fire with the bat at the moment and has shown the matches that he can be very aggressive. With no established openers at the moment, it's a perfect chance to give him a go ahead of Clarke who shouldn't be a long term option opening as much as he wants it.

looks like the selectors are starting to do the english 'oh he's had ONE good season, lets throw him to the wolves'

marsh in
freguson > white, as much as he is another 'he's had one good season' type, he did well when given the opportunity
dhussey is probably lucky, but he's a hussey
would love to see voges in full flight in the team, but he appears to have become a confused nowhere batsman at state level recently
laughlin... wtf ?
geeves.... *shakes head*

Don't see the point of Voges, tbh. Get Quiney in the side.
Oooo, my bandwagon gaining support. Excellent.

Don't really mind the selection of Voges though; his numbers in the last few seasons back it up and despite his relatively low SR in recent FRC games, he has the ability to go big as well.

I'd like to see Quiney in for White, if anyone.

Have you seen his stats/seen him bowl this season?

EWS! WA's batting this season? Collapses all the time? Don't think you can begrudge him a low strike-rate at all.

they love pigeon holing

they also have started to pick 'specialists' like england do, which of course works so well for them *cough* warner *cough*

so ? since when was one good season the basis for national honors ? and if anyone mentions david warner i will wig out

the selectors are just desperate to unearth someone special from nowhere, like a warne, or even a siddle, instead of just letting them develop in the shield.

blokes like noffke, bollinger, magoffin have been dominating batsmen for years.

maybe because laughlin's dad is on one of the local cricket boards, plays golf with AB or something

If Ponting made his debut now, he'd probably be labeled a test specialist.

Very interesting squad selection for the ODI and 20/20.

Not many surprises on the batting front. Will end up being much the same line-up we seen at the end of the Australian summer. I don't understand the fuss over Phil Hughes not making the squad. He had a passable summer of FRC, and still scores at a snails pace for the modern game. I was more disappointed to see Marcus North to miss out, seems like a perfect addition after his test selection. Has been fantastic for Western Australia in the FRC this season, has shown he can play international bowlers, and can chime in with off-breaks that are alot better than Cam White or David Hussey rolling the arm over.

The bowlers are admittedly quite interesting. The attack will still revolve around Bracken, Johnson and Hopes. I don't mind the selection of Geeves, his style of bowling suits this format of the game. Laughlin may well prove to be just a one season wonder, but his performance over the past season was just terrific. Ripped through some rather quality batting line-up’s. Doesn't look the most potent threat live, bowls at a decent pace, swings the ball about abit, and doesn’t mind the slower ball. Can't fault the selectors for picking the guy who dominated the local competition though.

For 20/20, well I am one of Shane Harwood's big fans. The guy is still seriously quick, has so much aggression about his bowling. Just a fantastic limited over’s style of bowler and it is great for Australia to give him another shot. Just wish he was 10 years younger.

Hey guys, is Watson good enough to make it on his own as a batsman, and batting only and not worry about his bowling as much with all his injuries? I ask because the Queensland coach was talking about such a measure.

shane watson appears to have been pigeon holed also, if he can't bowl he doesn't play, i'm a big rap for his batting, more than his bowling actually, probably due to the fact that he has very often had to play solely as a batsman when he's been injured. he didn't seem to have the improvisation to survive at limited overs or t20 until the ipl last year, now the guy has some serious skills, and greg chappell has been coaching him since he's been injured again.

bit dissapointed and mystified at marcus north, he had a better limited overs and t20 season than FC season yet got picked in the tests and not the shorter formats, weird, i'm sure he'll get a change eventually.

i don't mind harwood, but if they are going to pick him at 35, then why not nannes ?

International 12th Man
ahahaha

think you'll need more than nannes.

he could play as an allrounder in that team, open the batting and the bowling.

pretty sure some international openers wouldn't be overly keen to face him either

No then?

In no way am I advocating Laughlin's selection. But there is a large basis of understanding for it. He has been amazing in OD games this season, and taken down big name batsmen on a regular basis.

yeah i just don't agree with it, as much as i'm willing to be made wrong, like when siddle was picked ahead of bollinger, it doesn't always work
