His record at state leavel is very good, much better than Clark's!benchmark00 said:Why? To make the series close?
If that was anything to go by, Johnson and Dorey wouldn't have been given a go.mikeW said:His record at state leavel is very good, much better than Clark's!
It is not much better than clarks, what are you talking about?mikeW said:His record at state leavel is very good, much better than Clark's!
based on what?mikeW said:Lewis deserves his place much more than Stuart Clark....
well in defense to our odd selectors if they were not going to pick Jaques as the opener they wouldn't be much sense picking him at all. Has we have saying all the time Jaques is obviosuly a better option that Katich, but in his own way Katich has been pretty good in the VB series without being as spectacular has the rest of the top 7. So for Jaques to come in Katich simply has to fail miserably sometime in the coming year.howardj said:Dorey and Hopes were pretty much exposed in the VB Series, and were deservedly omitted. However, Phil Jacques most definitely should be in that squad. How the selectors think that Katich is the better option, still escapes me. Anyway, good to see Watson back - hopefully he gets a chance with the bat.
Yeah, I think for guys like Watson and Hopes to be of any value, they have to batting in the top seven (ideally in the top six). This is not likely to be the case in the current side, as Clarke or Hussey deservedly occupy that spot. With both Hopes and Watson (more so with Hopes) their bowling is not, of itself, good enough to justify a place in the team. Therefore, if they're batting at eight - where they will hardly get a hit anyway - you may as well just pick a specialist bowler and put that bowler at number nine, behind Hogg at eight.aussie said:With reference to Hopes again, for me i think he should have been in the squad, yea his bowling has been a little exposed, but other than the 2 games at the SCG when he was smashed his bowling has been fairly economical while his batting in the few times he battd looked good, for me i hope the selectors dont discard him for good..

well maybe Lewis has been better domestically, but come on Clark has been good if that superb since coming in to the OD team & has such deserved his place over Lewis in the OD team if their ever is a debate over their position in the future.mikeW said:past 3-4 years.
Superb? thats pushing it. hes been serviceable and has been given more opurtunities than Lewisaussie said:well maybe Lewis has been better domestically, but come on Clark has been good if that superb since coming in to the OD team & has such deserved his place over Lewis in the OD team if their ever is a debate over their position in the future.
did i say he was superb?, but IMO from what i've seen of them Clark seems a better bowler, a better outfielder & a better batsman.mikeW said:Superb? thats pushing it. hes been serviceable and has been given more opurtunities than Lewis
Are you serious? Lewis is a much better feilder, Clark would be one of the worst in world cricket although he is a much better batsmen than Lewis not that thats much of an acheivement.aussie said:did i say he was superb?, but IMO from what i've seen of them Clark seems a better bowler, a better outfielder & a better batsman.
Why do i find that hard to believe? thats a pretty poor excuse.Jono said:Apparently its Jaques' fielding that could be holding him back... or so chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns says anyway.

I have seen anything that fantastic from Lewis as a fielder but Clark throughout the VB series has been very good patrolling the boundaries at fine-leg & third-man & has a very good arm, cant see how he can be one of the worst in world cricket. Not saying Lewis is bad but IMO Clark is better in that area, but its a matter of opinion..mikeW said:Are you serious? thats our selectos these days, very disappointing..Jono said:Apparently its Jaques' fielding that could be holding him back... or so chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns says anyway.

Particularly considering the sitter Katich shelled yesterday. And from what I've seen of Jaques in the field, he's no Symonds but he's certainly good enough. He can't be as bad as Bevan was towards the end. Oh wait, was that why he was dropped too?mikeW said:Why do i find that hard to believe? thats a pretty poor excuse.
