I tell ye what! If McGrath gets back to his form he had from Perth to Lords, Warne bowls like we know he can, and Clark can remain the way he is now - Australia wont look much weaker than when they had Gillespie in their team. Clark looks amazing... I don't expect him to get five a lot, but I expect him to be probing. Even Lee has improved and actually has performed better in his last six tests than his last eight ODI's.

The bowling looks very solid right now with Clark. I sometimes talk to a bloke from Auckland about cricket and we both agreed Australia's problems recently came from Gillespie's drop in form. What I asked him what they should be doing, he felt they needed to find another seamer. I don't think many saw that seamer to be Clark. Don't misunderstand me, Clark wont be the main wicket taker. All Australia need is somebody who can keep the pressure on, insted of going for plenty of runs in trying to get a wicket.

In the batting no batsman on earth comes close to Ponting right now. Hayden is back in form and I dig the way he bats these days. He used to be such a fast run scorer and a bully... somehow it all backfired on him. Lately he's been more patient and more in control. Very watchful as well. Hussey is amazing.

There are some doubts about Martyn but they should keep him for a while I believe. Gilly isn't in form but he's of the champion mold so no great worries. Symonds needs to earn his keep as a batsman. A centurty from him would seal the deal for a while. If I were an Aussie selecter, I would keep these three guys but keep my options open.

It's been ages since Langer's made a century, not since the 5th test in the Ashes... and before that he made plenty of starts but couldn't go on. It's a trend with Justin. I admire his guts and determination. He's known as the hardest worker in his team and he's actually a likeable Aussie. But it's been a while. I suppose he's earnt plenty of slack since he has over 20 centuries. So he should be safe for a little while, but I've heard stuff about Phil Jaques and there's probably some Aussies here who could fill me in on him.

But yeah they look a more solid than the one that went to the Oval last year with one in-form strike bowler (Warne) and one Aussie who made a century in the series (Ponting).

Anybody noticed how placid Stuart Clark is? Never seen him even stare somebody down and there's nothing wrong with that.
I've said time and time again, but the man has almost no facial expression.

I just don't understand it. you have two of the proudest sporting nations in the world slanging out, playing the greatest game ever created, and they are acting like babies over a rattle..

I'd pay good money to be in any one of their positions for a day, as millions of people would.. They should respect that, and be happy that they are out there in the first place..
Very well said indeed.

I feel so bad for Mark Boucher, I don't think he could've played a more solid innings.

He never looked like getting out, not even for one ball.
I'm still confused by the way he took Symonds for the whole of the last wicket stand, and left Ntini with Warne.

To be fair to Langer, hasn't he had 2 or 3 breaks owing to injury though?

I was a little curious as to what he was doing, my theory was that he wanted to face every ball, but when it came down to the last ball of the over they choked his singles.

It would have been extremely hard not to have given Smith out. It hit him just above the wrist. The Kallis LBW IMO was hitting leg. And the rest is history. :D

Beautiful game of cricket, an absolute thriller. Warne is a magician, and Lee was pretty unlucky. Bracken over Kasper and we have ourselves a team.

Punter should have been given MOTM though.

Well, egg on my face there with Ponting setting a target of 410 with 130 overs remaining...

Aussie ****iness taking over, I feel. South Africa will think that all they have to do is not get out and they'll reach the target. It's basically a gift which needs to be carefully unwrapped or it'll break.

Whatever the outcome...poor captaincy by Ponting

Ha ha, what a loser.

Yeah, he has. And I know he hit a 99 during the Windies tour of Australia, so he's not in a huge form trough, just needs to convert his starts.

Ponting captained quite well this Test IMO. I thought his declaration was just a bit too late, but he was obviously justified. :)

Punter definitely definitely deserved the MOTM. What a rare feat and to do it 3 times now. Amazing.

Bracken should definitely be in for Kasper

I get feeling after ponting keeps mentioning the ashes that:

1) He despartley wants to avoid the hall of horror along with Kim Hughes and Graham Yallop who lost the Ashes and never reclaimed it.

2) He's ready to stake his captaincy on the Ashes.

The rule was applied pretty fairly I thought. The usual sign for "artificial light taking over" is the multiple shadows from the players, and there were no shadows. And of course, Gilchrist bowled his slow bowlers for the last dozen overs of the match.
