***Official*** Australia in South Africa 2018

I don't get how this is screwed up so often. Surely sunset times aren't exactly mysteries?
It's beyond stupidity mate.

SA is a funny case. We have 1 time zone but we probably 1.5 so Durbs gets a very early sunrise and sunset. It isn't rocket science.

Not sure if there is a cut-off that you can bowl first ball of the day in a test but if there is, it needs changing.

Probably depends on how confident one is on SA nipping out these last 5 wickets with the new ball tomorrow. I'd say it's even though with Australia maybe edging it considering SA are chasing and I think they'll make another 100 odd runs.

Fairly even day. I feel like AUS is a bit ahead considering how low-scoring games in RSA have been recently, and the fact that RSA have to bat last, but RSAs extra bat partly mitigates this.

Yeah, South Africa is probably a bit too big for one time zone, but maybe not quite big enough for two. Or at least, the process of switching over to two would be such a logistical nightmare, and the complication of having Cape Town and Joburg/Pretoria in different time zones might outweigh any benefits from going that route.

I remember hearing an explanation that it was difficult to bring the start of test matches in Durban forward sooner because there's so much going on before the day's play that would then have to start even earlier. Although I suppose that could just have been a commentator not being too keen on getting up earlier...

Is there a way to see the pitch map stats on Cricinfo anymore? Can only view them for the 2 current bowlers in the statistics tab in the scorecard.

Been working all day. Miss much?

Why the heck, with overs lost are they adding more to the END of the day not the beginning? They did that vs. India too and it's beyond stupid. Is it some new ICC thing? It kinda makes sense in England where sunset in summer is so late, but not here!

Lost overs are generally added on at the start of the day here, so clearly it's just a choice made by the boards.

The lame explanation I heard previously is tv crew and players would have to start preparing too early for play to start early at Durban.. ..

If you seperate the earth into the 24 hour meridians at 15deg each then SA should have 2 time zones split somewhere down the middle; but SA have enough problems without creating 2 time zones!

We used to start 30 min earlier if rain interrupted, has that gone away?

Looks pretty even on he board but I think SA ahead. The old “add 25 runs and two wickets” theory says it’s going their way.

Sign of a good first day is the old cliche “crucial first session tomorrow”. Certainly applies here.

Really can go either way here. Pick up all 5 for 50 runs and its definitely advantage SA. If they squeeze out another 150 it's definitely advantage Aus.
