It did look fairly close between bat and pad so can see why it was reviewed, but that still seemed high risk for this situation TSTL.

not much evidence that pakistan are much interested in chasing this so far
They probably don't need to show any intent, just bat time and if wickets are in hand with a session to go they can make a decision then.
Still very surprised by all of this, understand the tail may be weak but Australia should be worried about the top order
given the way this series has panned out so far.

Yeah the game for Pakistan is "bat somewhat conservatively for the first 80 overs then see if it's on". If they're two wickets or less down, then go for it. Four wickets or more, go for the draw.

I get why you want to go after Lyon....but it feels like Imam's going too agressive right now.

They are definitely batting to a plan to get to the target.

Don't have to go hard early on as the required rate is under 3 an over. Preserve wickets for 3 sessions scoring at a decent clip. Then go for the target in the final session. Easy.

Is there such a list of ''most sporting declarations in cricket''?
Can't believe that this wouldn't be right up there towards the top of the list.

Don't know if this could be said about any past or present Aussie cricketer but Lyon wouldn't make it to any other test nations playing 11 if they had an option to pick him.
IMO he'd definitely make the England, South Africa, West Indies and Pakistan sides. Probably Sri Lanka as well though I haven't seen much of their new spinners.

That's being too generous on him. There is no way he will be ahead of Maharaj. England don't love picking a spinner and Lyon will be a big turn off in his current form. Nauman has been in better form than Lyon in recent past and WI is probably one side that could afford him.

I mean England have picked a spinner in most of their recent Tests.

And Nauman has only looked better because of that 6-fer where Australia gifted him wickets through legside crap trying to force the pace. Lyon did bowl well in the Ashes, this isn't great conditions for spinners.

Maharaj, admittedly it's a bit more debatable on current form. But long-term Lyon easily has the edge.
