My assumption is that they feel that this pitch is so hard to score on that Pakistan won't be able to get to that total without taking significant risks.

EDIT: They only scored 230 in about this much time in the first innings, so not an unreasonable assumption

I'm always a bit negative but they've opened the door when an extra 10 overs of just smashing it would've probably put it out of reach for Pakistan. Anything under 3 an over can be chased down without that much of a hassle.

I mean Pakistan batted for about this long in the first innings when it was presumably easier to score quickly and they only got to 230-odd

Australia were scoring pretty freely this innings tbf. But given the way the first two innings went I can see their point. As it is I'm worried they're overcompensating.

I do guess there's not really a Pant that can take the game away and Pakistan's tail is quite long so maybe it's much harder than I anticipated.
