in modern ODI cricket it's very difficult to be a genuine wicket taking threat in the middle overs unless you troll batsmen into slogging you ala Grant Elliott. It's completely half baked but I think Milne earns a lot of wickets for the bowler at the other end because batsmen are afraid to attack him and instead take on the dribble at the other end resulting in catches on the boundary,

Fun game to be at. Not to hot, good natured crowd, good back and forth dynamic throughout.

Very good performance from Santner. Still a little sceptical about him, but you can't knock the results so far. Big concerns about Anderson though, he's looking very rusty with bat. No way he should be anywhere near the test side in his current state. Given how much turn there was on offer whether it might've been a better idea to throw the ball to KW rather than Anderson after Santner finished.

Milne's been really disappointing this season, just hasn't kicked on at all from the SA tour in the winter. Still reckon he's the best third seamer on offer, but he's damn lucky that Mitch McC is injured.

Well done Australia. Warner was just awesome and MMarsh batted very well (for a change).

I agree he's doing a decent job, for the record. Think it's been said before, he's been a Gavin Larsen clone in terms of his RPO in the past at 145 clicks, not threatening to get anyone out. Maybe that's part of his maturing is to drop that pace and not get carried away with the public being barred up about the pace he hits, and getting a big cheer when 150 flashes up.
Nope

If you can bowl 150ks then do it as consistency comes with practice

150 is rare, 135 is dime a dozen

But what's 150 if you're not taking wickets? A meaningless number. He is consistent, he's hitting good lengths. He just might need to get a couple more tools in terms of changes of pace or mix his lengths up more, I'm not sure. Or maybe they're happy with the role he performs. I just hear 'here comes Adam Milne to crank up the heat and chip a couple out' and it's not something he's ever done at international level.

A lot of people give little credit to Mitch but he takes wickets through nous/mixing his lengths or pure arse (depends on whom you're talking to) but takes wickets he does, and he's probably a better death bowler than Milne too. His RPO is a touch higher but Brendon and this NZ side value wickets over RPO, and you're talking 27 balls per wicket for Mitch v 47 for Milne. That's a massive difference.

if you're bowling to a rampant chris gayle who's already taken apart our assortment of 135kph bowlers who would you rather have steaming in?

I'll bring up the obvious question: why does Milne not move the ball more? Bond swung it like a banana at even higher speeds than Milne. Obviously we can't expect anyone to be another Bond, but do guys here think he will learn to swing it?

The next match is looming as a big twofer or threefer from Milne anyway, isn't it? Or do Seddon only use that clay if the oppo coming to town is Asian.

The plane of his arm coming through past the 12 o'clock point is a big part of it, according to some experts. Milne can only get an outswinger going if starts about two feet outside off.

Yeah the seam is often okay with Milne, but the wrist and arm would need to be not working at cross purposes like that.

thought milne's first two overs he looked really dangerous with a newish ball, but then he was taken off and wasnt brought back until there wasnt much on offer for the quicks

Kudos to Australia for recovering well and setting up the decider, but again NZ lacking the ruthlessness with the bat that's needed of top teams. The top 4 needed to really cash in given the favourable conditions (and the out of sorts middle order). Not fair to expect Kane to go big every time bit Guppy once again threw away a chance of making a really big score. Baz was his usual self but I'd question the lack of selective shotmaking when you don't have the luxury of an in-form middle order.

He's going to need to do something. 145km ish with an action that gives the batsmen a good look the whole way through isn't cutting it. He actually hits pretty good areas in a pitch map sense but doesn't get bounce or swing it.
I just wanna know how a guy who can bowl 150 plus can just look so pedestrian and easy to face. His bouncer stinks, and I think that plays a big part of it. Even Doully brought that up last night. Actually thinking about it can anyone remember Milne roughing a batsman up during his four years of international cricket? Because I can't, which is strange for a guy who bowls that fast.

Man that was a bum shellacking of epic proportions. The part I enjoyed most about the Aussie performance was how Khwaja and Dum Dum batted at the beginning. They didn't close their eyes and slog, they just played good cricket shots. Once it was evident there was no swing for Boult, NZ was playing catch up.

Well done to Oz for tying up the series. At least I won't have to listen to the radio sports guys bleating on about how damn awesome we are. We're a good team, no doubt about that, but the real test is Oz and they are showing just how to play the game.

Jon Brooks prediction time for ODI 3:

1) Black Caps bowl
2) Oz put on 350
3) NZ all out for 180
4) McCullum duck, Williamson 40, Guptill 30. Remainder not worth mentioning
5) JB doesn't have to listen to radio sport commentators go on about how damn good we are all week
