Agree.

Not quite the type of cricket the crowd are expecting.

But it's what groundsman Bool was expecting: "I think we'll stick to our plans. We're not here to serve up a pitch to suit New Zealand. We're here to serve up a pitch that's going to give us a quality game,".

This type of pitch is great for white ball games.

But more of this and test match crowds at Hagley will go the way of Wellington 7s crowds.

And there is the test average of 60

funny we've been comparing him to blokes who can't even average 50

Question for the Aussie blokes; what does a typical grade cricketer average if they're considered a good bat over there?
Where I am the best batsmen average from 25 to 40, depending on grade of course. If you do well you'll move up a grade, reducing your average.
Very rarely do you get guys averaging over 40 though. 30 to 35 is common for the guys who 'seem' really good.

Can't see anything other than an Australian victory now.

Only question now is whether it will be an innings.

You have to give credit to the Australians, they're a much better side than us with bat and ball.

They deserve to move to #1 after this series.

In grade cricket, you'd expect Test players to come back and dominate, naturally. FC-quality players look to average 50ish over their careers -- lots of English county guys come across and average between 45 and 70 during a season if they're batting well (Cowdrey's averaging ~40 for Wests this year, Stoneman's around the 80 mark this season). Then you get high-class grade players who aren't quite good enough to step up, sitting around the 40-50 mark most years. Noted FC underperformer David Dawson averages 51 in Sydney Grade since 2009; ultra-consistent around that mark too.

So basically to be seen as a genuinely good grade bat, 40+. To be seen for higher honours, you're looking at 60+ seasons.

Do SOMETHING McCullum!
What do you expect him to do? He can't magic up some clouds from over the horizon to help with swing, nor can he turn back time and bowl 2014 era Southee and Boult. His field setting this morning weren't great, but none of that can disguise the fact our two senior bowlers look shells of their former selves.

I would have enjoyed Ish bowling long-hops and full tosses to get guys out caught on the fence all day.
