Hmm, where's the Ponting quote come from? I'd be interested to see what he was asked. The article seems to be reading a lot into a fairly simple comment that could have honestly meant he didn't know why Bedi was there. Could also have been intended to be somewhat rude, hard to say.
Yea im hoping your right i mean ponting wouldn't be rude on purpose anyhow because Bedi was there giving the a hand. Just yeah hope to find out the correct context if anyone one else knows please enlighten us :)

Yeah, that's one statement taken out of context and made a whole article about. The question could have been, "How did you convince Bedi to help your spinners out?" Which makes “I don’t know how Bedi landed up there” under a better light. Then again it could have meant something else too.

Despite the downturn of the tourists' performances, Clarke remained hopeful that the pitch would not change face before the end of Australia's first innings. "Being a batsman," he said, "I can't wait to get out there and get my opportunity tomorrow on that wicket.
He can't wait for Australia to be 3 down before end of play tomorrow?

Ponting could have meant, I don’t know who invited Bedi to training, meaning he did not ask him to come and thus he uses the term, “I don’t know how Bedi landed up there”. If that is the case then there is nothing particularly rude about it.
You turn up to training and you see someone who you didn’t think was coming and you would naturally say, “what the **** is this guy doing here and what the **** is he wearing, is he for real?”, and when you are told who the guy is, you then say, “great to see you Bishan!".

"I don't know how Bedi landed up here", as far as my command over the language goes, it could mean only one thing, Ponting has no clue regarding his coach inviting Bedi, and he knows nothing of Bedi.

And? Being genuinely ignorant of why/how Bedi came there helping means he was trying to be offensive?

“I don’t know how Bedi landed up there.”

“I don’t know how Bedi landed up there.”

Those two words with different emphasis give a different meaning.

Well i guess its just you would hope that Mr. Bedi's visit would have been pre-arranged and the captain should have been informed of it... Maybe he could have gotten some pointers for his own spin if he was prepared

Sad when fans are left to defend their idol's mouth-flippers.

Well i have found a better quote maybe it was all in jest.

Cricinfo quotes -

"I don't even know how Bedi landed up. He was at a party the previous night [at the Australian High Commission] and the next morning I see him at the nets!"
Ricky Ponting isn't sure who invited Bishan Bedi to give tips to Australia's spinners

Er. No. I just don't think Ponting would be unwelcoming to Bedi helping, even if it wasn't prearranged.

Well i have found a better quote maybe it was all in jest.

Ok. That seems reasonable. But still undiplomatic of the captain to mouth his thoughts in such a fashion.

Anyway journalists from India too join in this Quoting without context game, started by Aussie journalist gems like Conn.

Tbh, Ponting is one of the least liked cricketers in CW, the kind of flak he evokes is bloody uncalled for at times.
Nah, it's almost always deserved.

But I wouldn't pass judgment on this unless I heard the interview live. Even reading it in context may not give the full story.
