I think someone was saying before he has injured his back a bit so maybe his being a bit cautious
Has had back troubles for years now, even when he first started with NSW. This is why it's really stupid to bowl him as much as Ponting does and why I thought those who were saying the Aussies should pick four quicks and make Clarke the spinner were short-sighted. He can bowl, absolutely, but when its at the expense of his batting, too much is lost.

Piss poor from Katich..what was he thinking getting in the way so deliberately?
well anything to get the batsmen out... u want to get under their skin i presume and so he did. from cricinfo "I want to hear what the match referee does about that incident, if anything. Katich clearly got in Gambhir' way, and then started shouting."

But if he's not going to bowl, I don't see how his place is so secure in the team. At the moment presumably Symonds comes back in for Watson, but if Watson is bowling better/more than Clarke as his batting is on a par who do you keep?

Well, form in the last year is one reason but it's fair enough to ask the question. Still, there's no way his bowling should come into deciding whether he should be in the side. Must do it on the strength of his batting.

Clarke might not be scoring runs in pressure situations but post-Ashes series he has been one of Australia' most consistent batsmen in test cricket, so i can't see how he would get dropped if he doesn't bowl.

Selection of White looming as disasterous at this point. Gambhir, and at times Tendulkar and Laxman, simply too good today. The over-rate bowling of Clarke and Katich hasn't helped.

No way is Watson's batting remotely on a par with Clarke's based on what they've done to date

Which all comes back to the lack of a test standard spinner, Australia lost Hogg, warne and macgill in too quick a succession and Hauritz, casson, cullen who were so promising 3/4 years ago have done nothing since.
