if drop laxman why not pathan or maybe khan. Its bloody ridiculous. But i still do believe the selectors would cosider leaving out yuvraj and plugging chopra back

If they keep Laxman, he might follow it up with a big innings like so many people have done when their places have been questioned.

For every fickle there's one who understands how talented the team is, and isn't willing to drop every classy player they have.

There were calls to drop Sehwag and he scored 155. Now Laxman? That's even more ridiculous. I EVEN remember calls to drop Sachin after the first three tests in Australia
I understand the sentiments and I think Laxman is one of the greatest batsmen India has produced. But I really think a match or two off will bring him back hungrier. It is not always the best thing to keep playing a player when he seems to be going through a bad patch.

Having said that, if we decided to continue with him for another game, I would understand and its okay. But remember the longer the list of failures before he is dropped, the longer it invariably takes to get him back.

A game or two off at this time will be better.

I remember once, Mohinder after two absolutely fantabulous tours got into a bad patch. But the se;lectors persisited and so did Mohinder's failures. He ended up with something like 1 run in eight innings or so before being dropped.
I think it took this extremely fine player two years or so before he got back into the side.

I have always felt that the long string of failures (which was long only because he was kept in) worked against his AND the Indian teams interests and for two years we polayed, in his place, players who werent fit enough to tie his laces.

Thats all. I am not advocating Laxmans dropping because he doesnt deserve a place oin the side but because he seems to be in a bad patch and should be rested.

laxman rest? i disagree. In test cricket you can play yourself into form
You can ....Yes of course. Its a question of whether you can afford to take that chance. If India go ahead and win this (second) test, they may go ahead and give another match but if they lose this one AND Laxman fails in the second innings too, it would not be a shocker if he was rested.

Once again, I agree he is a great player but if we are two down (hopefully that may not happen) then why shouldnt we take an 'unpopular' measure.

As far as Ganguly is concerned, yes he should be dropped before Laxman if someone else was leading the side. Thats not the case and dropping captains, mid series is not something resorted to nowadays often purely on the form of the skipper as a player. I dont see it happening now.

But two matches would take him out of the series!

Seriously, this is India's shot at the test number two position. They're very likely to win this match, any disaster notwithstanding. Why drop a player with such a great record against Australia? Surely you'd wait until the end of the series for that kind of bloodletting.

And what great thing have Sehwag, Yuvraj, Kaif and Ganguly done to stay in at his expense??
Surely you know what Sehwag has done. Here are his score in tests in 2004.
